Re: Oil leak in filter area
Well, it wasn't the oil filter - in the area of the filter housing there was a small area of the cast crankcase that had become porous. The shop has ground it back a little, put in a small aluminium/aluminium weld and lightly dressed it with liquid metal. It appear to have solved the problem but I'l...

Oil leak in filter area
I had my 2005 R1200RT SE serviced when back in the UK over Christmas (we live part-time in France). On arriving back in France and parking up on the drive I noticed a small oil stain on the ground. When I got around to looking at it, oil was weeping from around the filter area. The local shop (non-B...

Re: Faulty Oil Filters !
I recently had my 2005 R1200RT SE serviced at my local (non-BMW) shop who fitted a Hi-Flo oil filter prior to my trip to France. On arrival and after unpacking, I noticed an oil stain on the drive and on investigation it proved to be a weeping oil filter. I cinched it up a little but to no effect. I...

miles - kilometers converter
My 2005 RT being British spec has miles speedo graduations and as it spends a good few months in France each year it would be good if I could fit a (switchable) Km converter. I know that Km bikes imported into the UK can be fitted with such a converter but wondered if there is a miles to kilometres ...

Re: Agricultural clunk
My previous 2002 RT1150RT and current 2005 RT1200RT seem to be exactly the same gearbox wise. As the above post remarks, for this money you'd have thought they could do better. My Honda ST1100 also clonked into first sometimes so it's not an unknown issue but if cars can do it pr...

Re: OEM Wiring connectors
The cunning plan is to take a 6way single pole fusebox directly from the battery and then feed Autocom, spot/fog lights, satnav, etc via isolation switches and warning lights.
Instead of using aftermarket connectors, an OEM look would be better.

OEM Wiring connectors
Thought it might be a good idea to use OEM connectors when installing farkles to keep the wiring looking tidy.
Anyone have a UK source for these, or are they just (probably expensive) Motorad stock items?

Re: Alarm battery condition ??
Whilst my handbook shows how to select the different readings (residual range, average speed, etc.) it gives no method of accessing "settings". My bike is a 2005 model on-board computer so would it have that facility?

Re: Alarm battery condition ??
STeinar, you've lost me - are you talking about "settings" accessed through the remote fob or through the on-board computer? Forgive my ignorance, I'm still finding my way around the bike. (The old Pan was much less complicated).

Re: Alarm battery condition ??
Thanks for that RTman10 - have found the battery change routine on YouTube so that clarifies that.
I'm getting no visual or sound responses when I turn the ignition off so I'm assuming it's not arming. Looks like a play with the fob is the only answer

Alarm battery condition ??
When I turn the ignition on it goes through its check routine and shows a DWA battery icon half-charged. The bike (2005 R1200RT SE) recently new to me, has the factory fitted alarm system and the seller assured me is arms itself automatically when the ignition is switched off. I'm a bit sc...

Thanks for the welcome and heads-up guys.
RTman10 - turning the ignition on for a minute or so worked a treat; thanks for that. I will be putting an addition direct socket in too.

Ex-Pan newbie
Hello all - traded my Pan11 after 10 years ownership for a 2005 R1200RT SE with 25k miles on the clock. Not new to RTs as I did run an 1150 for a couple of years alongside the Pan. Bike is with us Brittany at the moment having ridden over from Somerset via Poole and Cherbourg. Ap...

Re: RT Models since 1978
Had a 2002 R1150RT for a couple of years and am now in negotiations for a 2005 R1200RT (chopping in my 1100 Pan owned for the last 10 yrs).
