rear disc carrier
Need to remove rear disc carrier on 2012 RT to replace leaking seal. On MAC and now can't seem to locate or open if I could, my service manual on this topic. Have reviewed a couple on line videos and fabricated a puller for the flange. Just interested in seeing if the factory solution is similar; i....

Re: How common is faulty ABS on 2005 RT & what mileage ?
On our '05, the module died in 2014 at 60k miles. At which point I did the ABSectomy.

Re: 1200rt ABS repair or replace options
If you decide to go with the ABSectomy, I can provide some tips from doing one on our '05 with sidecar. When I looked into pump replacement, I found that they are bike model and also serial number dependent (different versions of software based upon production date??). And when I checked o...

True. Doing the fluid change is time consuming but if you follow the service manual steps, it isn't really difficult. You will need the way overpriced funnel or it's possible to make your own. My advice would be to make sure the change is done whether you do it or have it done. I...

2012 RT
After earning the hard way when I didn't know the pitfalls of the servo assist brakes and bought our '05 RT sidecar rig ended up having to to a brake-ectomy to eliminate the whole mess. Considering a 2012 R1200RT and turn to the wisdom of the group on anything special I should be aware of...

Re: How many of you own a second bike?
This time last year the number of second bikes was 38. After some thinning, and a couple acquisitions, now at about 25. Mostly Honda, a Ducati, and two Bultaco.

Re: What other bikes do you own?
We have: An '82 CBX which is still one of our favorite two up riders. Not the best handling, stopping, storage ride; but we really enjoy it and it's always a conversation starter. A black (built in Marysville) '80 which is a real looker. A sliver '79 which I rescued from a kid who had no a...

49 liter top case
I have a 49 liter BMW Top Case for sale locally. (From our 2005 RT.)
Does anyone know if a later circa 2013 GS650F uses the same mounting system?
TIA

Re: 2005 rt brake fluid change
It is a little time consuming but as long as you have the funnel tool, and follow the instructions in the service manual, it isn't really difficult. Shameless plug here, but if you decide to do it yourself, I have a funnel I'll sell for $20 including shipping. (I did the ABSectom...

Re: What would it take to get the brake system from a 2007 to a 2005 model ?
While possible to retro-fit, I don't think it would really provide the same level of safety/performance. One of the things I learned while searching for a replacement servo module is that while the modules are physically identical, they are very, very specific with respect to model and yea...

Re: Going to look at a 2005 R1200RT. What do I need to know?
I did the ABSectomy on the 2005 w/sidecar that I bought last fall. The servo died right after I bought the bike. In the US the best price I found on a replacement module was about $2,400. Found a vendor in Germany selling them for about $1,300. Couple of points. When the servo di...

Re: Stripped threads on the screen mounting rails
I had the same issue with one of the four screws when I had to remove the screen to pull the instruments.
Replaced with a longer screw and found plenty of thread engagement. Problem solved.
