Re: New Member from Pacific NW
My daughter and I were riding in 100F weather a while ago. We took the bladders from our camelbaks, loaded them with ice and then gatorade and stuffed them into the back protector pocket of our mesh jackets. Back protector on the outside, camelbak on the inside. Looked ...

Re: Servicing
I don't ride enough to need to change the oil over the summer so I just change the oil and filter when I put the bike away for the winter. I pay no attention to the bike's scheduled service for that, just let the dealer adjust the valves and that's pretty much it.

Re: 2016 R1200RT eating batteries?
No, I haven't found the root cause yet. I'm just sure it's part of the BMW circuit. Might be software controlled. I have an appointment with BMW later in the month but I want as much data as I can get because the service manager is blaming me because I added LED Denali ...

Re: 2016 R1200RT eating batteries? The contunuing saga....
My norbal practice is to flip the key and hit the starter. A few days ago I was talking to the wife when I started the bike, so it went through it's boot up. I noticed that the voltage (have the display set to volts all the time now, paint me paranoid...) started under 11v and th...

Re: 2016 R1200RT eating batteries?
This RT is not keyless ride. I do have a very good multimeter. It says 7A draw through the bike with all accessory wires removed. I would expect less than 50mA. It seems there is some parasitic current draw in the BMW wiring. Some other forums sugges...

Re: 2016 R1200RT eating batteries?
Thanks for the input. Yes, the onboard voltmeter is running about 14.1v and I've confirmed the charging voltage on the BMW charger with the onboard voltmeter with the ignition on (engine off) and the two agree. So the bike is charging the battery and the charger is charging the b...

2016 R1200RT eating batteries?
I've had my 2016 RT since the fall of that year. Enjoyed the heated grips and seat on the way home. Oddly, this bike eats batteries at about one a year. Saturday I got the bike out and it wouldn't start and then wouldn't even turn over. Voltmeter (Fluke 77) sa...

One way to know your battery is dying....
2016 RT with the OEM battery. I've had the typical situation where the bike wouldn't start with the first push of the starter switch but would fire up on the second. No problem, typical according to the forum. But then it go to the point where the second push would caus...

Re: Help with grips
OURY "road" grips work pretty well but you'll have to cut the end. Suburban Machinery makes a good foot peg lowering kit. I've got both.

accuracy of tire pressure monitor system vs. good gauge
Pumped the tires up yesterday for a ride, used my Accugauge to check the pressures, left them 1psi over. Got on the bike and rode a few miles, flipped to the TPM on the dash. Reading 2psi low. This seem to be consistent no matter which gauge I use. Is the TPM 3psi off o...

Re: Russell seat advice needed
My wife always liked her backrest but I wouldn't put a backrest in front of a passenger. Had friends who had an accident that way and the passenger was really messed up.

Steering damper affected by cold?
The past couple of evenings after work I've noticed that the steering has seemed very "loose" as I was leaving the parking lot and making the first few corners and then seems to tighten up after 5 miles or so. It hasn't been very cold, about 40F. Anybody else noticed this?&nb...
