Re: R 1200 rt headlights
I do know of one person that was stopped by the police for having an HID bulb in his bike. He was given 6 days to fix plus proof from an MOT center to check he had changed the bulb back to standard. Plus 6 points. The person you know is feeding you BS. The scenario you are referring to is being iss...

Re: Rear caliper getting very hot.
The answer for me was to rip out the abs unit and re plumb the brakes back to standard, getting rid of the servo and abs. The brakes are more responsive and now work no more wondering when the electronics will fail again. Approx time including some electrical work 5 hours. The front brake now opera...

You will have a great ride - filtering with panniers on isn't a problem, until you get into central London - then things get a bit tight

Re: Advise on maintenance on ESA suspension
AFAIK the ESA shocks are not rebuildable. When mine went toes-up I replaced them with Ohlins.

Re: 2005 rt brake fluid change
http://advwisdom.hogranch.com/Wisdom/service_abs3.pdf The document is very detailed and reading it you might think it's really complicated - but it's not really. There was an update issued for the bleeding of the control circuits that you only need to bleed from one of the nipples on the control bo...

Re: Advise on maintenance on ESA suspension
Yep - no service items. Mine was always pretty clean on the outside but it did sieze up, luck of the draw to a certain extent I think.

Re: 2005 rt brake fluid change
I have done the brake bleed on my 2005 bike many times, it is not difficult but you do need to remove the fuel tank which is also not difficult, but don't do it when the tank is full - the extra weight makes it hard work! I downloaded a pdf with the instructions and made the filler tool from a small...

Re: Servicing - Dealer, Independent or DIY.
I believe it's 10% - 25% depending on the type of lubricant used. I reduce the torque by about 20% and have never had any problems. Rear wheel bolts however I do not grease and go 60nm Didn't know abut the copper grease issue, I come from a marine servicing background and we'd use the stuff on prett...

Re: To buy or not?
Anyone else has a 100k+ mileage on his? Does it lools that bad? Hows the engine like? When it asks for a rebuild? My 2005 RT had done 8k when I bought it in 2011, and now it has 92k on it. I can honestly say it looks 10 times better than that bike and I'm certainly not over zealous about cleaning i...

Re: Bridgestone T30 GT
Surely anything would be twitchy on paint and metal covers Sure, but I've done a lot of miles on this bike on various makes of tyre and ridden over a lot of paint, I guess what I'm saying is that these tyres didn't give me the same level of confidence in the wet on this bike as say 023s, Road Angel...

Re: Bridgestone T30 GT
I called Bridgestone tech support before fitting mine and they confirmed GT spec front and rear for the 1200RT This is my first set of T30s and I have about 2000 miles on them now and so far I'm very happy with them. Off to southern Spain next week so that will give me more opportunity to check the...

Re: Bridgestone T30 GT
Just taken up that offer, hopefully have them fitted next week, just awaiting confirmation as to whether they should be the GT version for the RT, and a fitting date with my chosen Tyre fitter. I called Bridgestone tech support before fitting mine and they confirmed GT spec front and rear for the 1...
