Re: Considering a R1200RT...
RT, Regarding your earlier comment about a reluctance to do U-turns on narrow roads, google a few videos of the technique of shifting your weight onto the outside edge of the seat, and then try it out on smaller bike a few times. It helps to keep imagining yourself doing it. Inner U-Turn.&...

Re: How is the new RT in hot weather?
I've had a chance to ride the RT a little more in hot weather. The wind blast with the stock windshield is adequate to keep my torso cool, but my legs get no air at all, and after a while I can feel the heat build up in my riding pants. I'm going to experiment with removing the plastic pan...

Re: Questions about the 1200RT
Actually, backrests are available for the water-cooled RT: http://www.bakupusa.com/bmw_models.html http://www.sargentcycle.com/Seats-Accessories/Sargent-Seats-BMW-R1200RT-2014-EM5-Backrest/ Regarding the pencil-thin grips, I hate them, too. The grips on the previous generation RT's were ex...

Re: How is the new RT in hot weather?
To all our hot weather riding friends. Received and installed my Cee Bailey Sport screen the other day. What a difference this screen makes. From the saddle it looks half the size of the original, (original is 24x21, sport is 21x15) but it provides a wonderful pocket of very smooth MOVING air. My c...

Re: How is the new RT in hot weather?
Hey Apehair, I just ordered the new Cee Bailey sport shield for my 16 RT (my kids wanted to know what I want for Fathers day). It should arrive next week. The smaller size (21x15) should flow more air and help with these +90° days. I will let you know. Thanks, 53. Would love to hear what ...

Re: Larger grips
I went to a sporting goods store and bought that material you use to rewrap tennis rackets. I prefer the feel of that to the grip puppies.
Do the old style RT grips fit the new RTs, anybody know? They were the perfect size and feel.

Re: How do you feel about the sportier nature of your RT?
I've been so busy with work and family vacation that I neglected to tell that you convinced me, and I went ahead and bought a new RT in blue.
The miles will have to wait until I return at the end of June, but so far I love everything about it.
Thank you all for your sage advice.

Best: 3. Callisto grey, extra fast paint scheme Worst: 1. Exhaust note Must have: 1. Akra end can Richard, I will overlook the offense of blasphemy >:D you committed against my RT, graced as it is by a blue paint scheme--which, I must add, is remarkably unlike previous RT's--so ...

Re: How is the new RT in hot weather?
In answer to your question; yes it gets a bit hot on hot days. The great environmental protection afforded by the fairing design, can at times be too good. I do not know where you live or ride, I ride for both pleasure and commute here in South Florida. When both the temp and humidity are up in the...

Re: How is the new RT in hot weather?
In my experience, once the temps hit 95-100 F, you stay cooler when you stay out of the wind. I rode my bare naked Harley through the Mojave desert one afternoon in July. When my wife and I stopped, the temp gauge at the gas station said 115. We were covered f...

Thanks, everyone, and Rusty Pie in particular for taking the time to write up your opinions.
Good food for thought.
