Re: How many RT LC owners actually have problems / issues?
Yes, I use one of those as my garage can be a bit cold and damp. I also sling a bike cover over it, the theory being that the warmth will creep up and keep everything dry. Been doing this for years and no corrosion issues on any bike yet. I didn't think of putting the cover over...

Re: How many RT LC owners actually have problems / issues?
Nope, I bought the bike 20 months ago, it had 1.5k on the clock. It now has 13k. I am not a great polisher, so answer no, just wash it, ACF 50 the engine and swing arm in the winter, by cloth. Polish very occasionally with Bullett polish. So guess I've been lucky Thanks for the prompt rep...

Re: How many RT LC owners actually have problems / issues?
A Question for Casbar.
Are you washing or waxing the bike with a particular product? is it in a heated garage?
I've been thinking of buying a small electric tubular greenhouse heater with the intention of leaving it at a low setting underneath the bike to see if that helps.

I'll let you know :enjoying:Casbar wrote: Quick question, has anyone had corrosion problems with the black engine. Salesman told me yesterday that they haven't seen any issues with the black running gear. But then I supposed its mostly newer models so it may have not happened yet 8)

Re: How many RT LC owners actually have problems / issues?
My new Rt is being delivered today. I have traded the 15 plate for a 17 with 2.5k on the clock and a long warranty, hopefully I will be as lucky as Casbar and get one that is ok

Re: How many RT LC owners actually have problems / issues?
Isn't that 10k on 4 bikes? As discussed previously, it only seems to impact UK bikes, although I don't understand why, but the cost to sort for the UK market vs changing the painting process for the whole production line is obviously more cost effective. Not every bike has the issue, my 2014 with 1...

Re: How many RT LC owners actually have problems / issues?
I can't understand why they are continuing with a known issue, £2.500for the replacement parts on my bike, that's 10k on two bikes.
It would be cheaper to powder coat them.

Re: How many RT LC owners actually have problems / issues?
I bought mine when it was 18 months old, not a mark on it. It was garaged over winter and has only been in one torrential downpour in Scotland and a bit of good old Yorkshire drizzle a couple of times. It has never seen salt.
I think the issue is water rather than lead based paint.

Re: How many RT LC owners actually have problems / issues?
"It sounds odd for me that it's my responsibility to tell them what's wrong the bike. Does anyone of you know if that's right or had similar experience?" At the end of the two year warranty I asked them to check for corrosion, nothing was said to me about the swing arm. I mentioned this to...

Re: How many RT LC owners actually have problems / issues?
It was indeed Dan, top bloke.
He said that it would need an oil change after 600mls but I presumed I would have to pay for it.
If it comes in free I will be very pleased.

Re: How many RT LC owners actually have problems / issues?
Well, good news on my front. I took the bike back to Allan Jefferies and spoke to Dan on the service desk, he escalated the issue to BMW and they have very kindly replaced the swing arm and the gear housing at the rear wheel, even though the bike was out of warranty. The total cost to myself was £95...

Re: How many RT LC owners actually have problems / issues?
The corrosion on mine is the same as the third image.
You need to get to the dealers with that, if you are still in warranty they will do something about it.
