Re: Cutting out
my bike stalled when i put it into first gear , this happened twice and also i was changing down from 3rd to 2nd gear ... Is it idling rough? Had similar issue on my ‘08 (different engine I know), and it turned out to be a bad idle solenoid. But my bike definitely was idling rou...

SUPERBIKE FACTORY, MACCLESFIELD
I stopped at that dealer for some clutch fluid on my way back to San Jose from a trip to Mexico (leaky in clutch line/cable) - nice people and great store - lots of bike inventory and accessories!slowvet wrote:

Re: SUPERBIKE FACTORY, MACCLESFIELD
Wow. Here in the states, test ride policies run the gamut, but in my part of California, I've never been charged a penny for a test ride. In fact, my dealer encourages test rides. And they give me a free loaner bike when I take mine in for service. So the concept of bei...

Re: This just doesn't seem right
Wet / dry clutch the wrong way round. Pre water cooled bikes had a dry clutch like a car they did not suffer from first gear clunk. The water cooled bikes have the clutch at the front of the engine and is a traditional motorcycle wet clutch. Thanks, absolutely correct and I knew that [emoji37]. I s...

This just doesn't seem right
A clunky/clanky shift is normal for the RT (just search forums like other poster said). However, the lurching forward is not, imo, normal. That sounds like a clutch issue, possibly. Others may have better opinion or suggestions, but if you sit on the bike, eng...

Re: Tank Capacity
up as usual and could only get 19.4 litres into the tank..How can that be! Regardless of model and year (which are important), this is a puzzle. To make sure I understand: You siphoned 25L out of the tank, and more or less immediately refilled (with no gas added in the interim), and it wo...

Re: New guy from Colorado with a newbie question
My '08 has 98k miles and always parked on side stand, no issues. I have had, very few times, on startup a puff of smoke that I read can be due to situation you describe, if engine is in just the right position in terms of valve train position. But maybe 4 times in all these years...

After removing the skin off the back of my hand and knuckles multiple times, I cut it off flush with a dremel tool. Never regretted it. '08 RT

Re: Prepare for a shock....
This thread got me off my chair to grab a screwdriver and pop the black plastic cover (sadly no roundel cover on my model year) on my '08 to inspect. Did so and it looked fine, no signs of rust like reported here. There is a little, but not so bad. Wonder if t...

Re: R1200RT panniers
Not sure how well the experience translates, but on this side of the pond ... I just finished having both saddlebags and 49L top-case repainted for $385 USD. Color match is perfect. Did same with same shop five years ago and it was $300 USD then. They said "cost of...

mcwhirtj, Wow! That’s an impressive luggage capacity with the smart trailer. Despite her now riding on her own bike, does she still insist that you tow it to accommodate all her ‘necessary’ holiday luggage....?? ;) :) Lol. Actually, we typically are motorcycle camping, and the little Unig...

Re: Two Up Riding on a R 1200 RT
... will the R 1200 RT handle two up touring without strain to the bike or passengers? A picture is worth a thousand words ... [emoji847] This is my wife and I five years ago about to head off on a two week tour. 2008 RT. She started ridding her own...

Blown gearbox
... rear gearbox casing has been cracked and holed ... input shaft was in two halves ... one of the selector forks has only one finger on it ... need to source a good condition used 20 spline box, oh, and a big bag of used banknotes. Not what you hoped to find, obviously. But at least now...
