Re: R1200rt really are special bikes
I live in Ohio and own a 2015 r1200RT that I bought used (with about 11K miles on it). It has been a great bike, overall, other than some pesky handlebar vibration (somewhat muted with aftermarket handlebar end-weights). Recently I drove a '19 r1250RT. HUGE difference !!!&nbs...

Re: Clatter on Start Up
OK...so it's an internal combustion engine. Mechanical noise is NORMAL ! JUST enjoy the bike ! It might be noisy for another 150,000 miles ! STOP worrying about it !

Re: New to the RT: tips?
Actually, I love the Garmin GPS; extremely easy to use, and very reliable. I would suggest heavier bar-end weights to reduce the classic freeway "buzz" of the RT's vibration, and maybe crash bars front and rear to protect that very expensive body work. Other than that: ...

Re: R1200RT LC Handlebar Vibration
For the good of the order, I own a 2015 r1200 RT and also had some bar vibration (not severe, but enough to fatigue my hands after an hour or so of highway riding). I ended up buying the aftermarket bar end weights made by the USA company: HVMP. Truthfully, I was somewh...

Re: new 2017 R1200RT Battery charging
I have used my BMW can bus charger now for over a year, and it is always plugged into the accessory socket it is designed for. Zero problems thus far on my '15 rt. So, I am not dissing others who choose a non-BMW charger; I am simply testifying that, for me personally, this is th...

Re: new 2017 R1200RT Battery charging
I went ahead and bought the BMW battery charger, and am delighted with it. It is indeed a very high quality item. It works flawlessly, and lets me know exactly what is going on. It is very convenient to simply plug it into the accessory socket on the right side of the f...

Re: Is this R1200RT the right bike for me? Need advice.
I too am small, and 65 years old. I weigh in @ about 150 lbs and am about 5'7". I bought a used '15 r1200RT (the eggplant deep purple color), and LOVE the bike !! Yes, it is indeed a 600 lb+ bike with full fuel, but the overall CG is low enough that I feel confiden...

Re: Engine performance and smoothness.
Add some after market bar-end weights. You'd be amazed at how much buzz, on the handlebar, will disappear ! The large boxer engine invites buzz...HUGE pistons, that even counter-balancers can't completely tame.

HVMP Bar End Weights
I just recently installed the HVMP Bar End Weights on my 2015 r1200RT beemer. GREAT results ! I am amazed at how much buzz has been eliminated ! It took a whole 10 minutes to install them ! Since my hands are very sensitive to vibrations (i.e. duPuytren's cont...

Re: How many of you own a second bike?
I own a 2012 Suzuki 650 DL (i.e. V-Strom). Great all-around bike, but not even close to the RT when it comes to weather protection. It is a nice "hot weather" bike, and great for those trips on unimproved roads.

Re: Laying Up/Winter Storage
I recently bought a 2015 r1200RT, and also lay my bikes up in the winter (I am in Ohio, and can't tolerate the cold at age 64 !) On page 160 of the BMW owner's manual, it recommends 1) completely filling fuel tank, 2) removing battery, 3) covering metal parts with vaseline, 4) waxing surfaces if wat...

Re: Winter storage
Fill fuel tank with the recommended premium; add to that BelRay brand stabilizer; jack up BOTH wheels off the ground, if you can. If not, put at least 10 PSI more air pressure into tires (i.e. they can easily withstand that added pressure). In addition, regarding the battery: IF you think ...

Re: 1st gear clunk
I had a buddy years ago who owned an BMW R69 US (Anybody here old enough to recall those ?). It was like a "hopped up" R 60, but without the Earles fork. When he would put it into first gear, it always sounded like a hammer hitting railroad iron !! Then, it wo...

Re: Just bought new BMW battery charger for CAN bus system.
Many, many BMW motorcycle parts are manufactured in China, then imported into Germany for assembly (especially electrical system parts, wiring, and even brake parts). So, a BMW is "Made in Germany", just like certain Fords are "Made in the USA". However, don't...

Re: Just bought new BMW battery charger for CAN bus system.
My BMW charger was made in China (right on the label). However, works like a charm. NO regrets paying the money for it.
I am willing to spend a few bucks to protect a 23 thousand dollar bike from any potential damge. Cheers to all.
