Re: Very unhappy 2017MY RT - help needed
Meanwhile, they've given you a loan bike. No, but in their defence when I rang to tell them that BMW were shipping the bike back to them the first thing they asked was if a loan bike had been arranged by BMW. I said I was fine being stuck without a bike for a few days. (If I go into serious withdra...

Re: Very unhappy 2017MY RT - help needed
Update today from the dealer - I got the short version but apparently they identified a broken wire as the cause of the issue. Seems like a bit of an odd one - I can't honestly say I have ever heard of a wire 'breaking' on a new bike before but I also can't see any reason why they would make somethi...

Re: Very unhappy 2017MY RT - help needed
BMW technician turned up today with his 'box of tricks'. Plugged in via the OBD-II port and couldn't get any response from the bike. He tried to connect to the old 'round' diagnostic connector but his plug wasn't compatible with the socket on my bike (seems they must have changed it recently). His f...

Re: Very unhappy 2017MY RT - help needed
Thanks everyone. I think I have done enough fault-finding at this stage, as suggested above: this is why we get a warranty. Hopefully it will be a quick fix with the dealer and I'll post up with the resolution when I know what it is.

Re: Very unhappy 2017MY RT - help needed
That's true - and I will check it - but I always stop the bike outside the garage and then wheel it in so there is no reason for it to be in gear. That also would not explain the other problems. And thanks temesvar, you are absolutely right. It's just an annoyance, especially on a 'new' bike. I'll g...

Re: Very unhappy 2017MY RT - help needed
Further update: put the multi-meter across between the auxiliary post and the negative terminal on the battery. Reads 13.02v so it's definitely not flat.

Re: Very unhappy 2017MY RT - help needed
The battery charger connects via the accessory port but it's a CANBUS version and I have never had a problem with it (I bought it originally for my F800 so this is now it's fourth bike). When I said 'fired up' I just meant I turned the key. Sorry, poor wording. All I am getting is activity on the da...

Re: Very unhappy 2017MY RT - help needed
Update: connected the jump start pack across the auxiliary positive terminal and the negative terminal on the battery. (Got the solid green light that shows the pack is properly connected.) Fired the bike up and there is no change in status. I tried checking the voltage via the dash but the 'menu' b...

Re: Very unhappy 2017MY RT - help needed
Thanks David - I hadn't considered trying a jump start. I have one of these jump start battery packs so can give that a try. John, thanks but I'm fairly sure the engine check light is always on when the ignition is on and the engine is not running - it's the same with most of the important warning i...

Very unhappy 2017MY RT - help needed
First off, a happy new year to all! Bit of an odd (and rather worrying) problem with my 1-year-old RT. I should say at the start that it was last out two weeks ago and was fine at that point. Yesterday I needed to get the mileage off the bike. I turned the ignition on and the first thing I noticed i...

Re: 1200 RT Pulls when brakes applied in a turn
Thanks a million for all your input. Apparently my 1200GS brakes have allowed me to develop a bad habit or two in regards to taking a turn. I noticed pronto that the brakes on the RT I experienced this "rising up" with are far more sensitive and than mine. In...

Re: connection problems with connection between navigator V and Packtalk re MP3 play
As stated above I usually connect my phone to the Nav V via BT then both the Nav V and the bike audio system to the helmet via the two Packtalk BT channels. When I last did a long run on the bike I did exactly what you describe, I disabled the BT connection between the Nav V and the Packtalk, leavin...

Re: Low MPG
The UK gallon and the USA gallon are not the same - you have to apply a conversion factor of 1.2 to get an accurate comparison. So 43 mpg on a US bike would be (43 x 1.2 =) 51.6 mpg in the UK. 55 mph while cruising would work out at 66 mpg here. Those figures are comparable with what I get from my b...

Re: 1200 RT Pulls when brakes applied in a turn
From a physics perspective front braking in a curve will always cause a bike to 'stand up' a bit; I think we all instinctively counteract that with throttle or steering input. I also came to the RT from a GS and it does handle differently, having a fair bit more top weight. It also has a lot more we...

Re: connection problems with connection between navigator V and Packtalk re MP3 play
Ok, thanks. I'll give it another try but I'm fairly sure it doesn't work like that on my bike.Casbar wrote:
