Re: Clatter on Start Up
When I first got my 2006 RT I too was concerned about the brief rattle on start up. Leaving on the side stand was one answer I received, and using a slightly heavier oil was another. Using the centre stand apparently helps to retain oil evenly in the top end and I did change to a mildly thicker oil,...

Re: Flip up helmet and intercom
Hi. I have tried all sorts of options, whilst trying not to break the bank. Fitting a system in my current lid which hurt my ears so I bit the bullet and bought a Viper RS151. This was fine but was a different frequency to my wife's system. As the viper helmets do come up a touch small I gave it to ...

Re: Best Model/Year
Thanks to everyone, Bit of a quandary. Toured Yorkshire and Scotland last year Two up. (I'm from Essex) and the bike was faultless. We even stayed dry (apart from my lower arms) when covering over 200 miles in heavy rain. (well it was Scotland) I've sold one of my other bikes with the idea of upgra...

Re: Best Model/Year
Mmmm. Blue and German. A good start. So what if I were to be considering a newer model. Blue and German aside, although that will now be a priority of course, is there a particular year or model that might stand out, or even left alone?

Best Model/Year
Hi all. At the risk of starting a feud, I was wondering what could be voted as the best model/year on the RT range.
Most of you guys seem to have owned a few over the years and must have a preference/favourite.
I have a 2006 Rt 1200 and love it. In fact its hard to fault.
Mark.

Re: Unusual Tyre wear?
My Z8's wore just as yours did. At 7900 miles I had to take them off. They hadplenty of tread but when laying it over on either side or working the bike through fast corners each way I was scared to death. You could feel them going over those ridges each time. Not safe and they had to go. I ran Z8'...

Re: Changing battery.
I've opted for the Yuasa YT19BL-BS. recommended for the R1200rt. And yes only £50 with free delivery. Just to say the Yuasa battery fitted perfectly. I performed the throttle opening as required with ignition on, The engine spun over much quicker. Peace of mind. For the uninitiated the battery come...

Re: Engine rattle.
I will have to experiment as the 'side stand' comment could carry some weight here. As each time this occurs is when the bike has been on the side stand for a short while. I will on the next run out leave her on the main stand for a short period. I have a run to Scotland from here in not so sunny Es...

Re: Engine rattle.
I did read up on the cam chain guides and tensioners and was wondering if that was the cause. To be sure I will change the oil and filter using a 10/60w and get back with the results.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Engine rattle.
Thanks for the response. The bike was serviced by a dealer 3000 miles prior to my purchase, I've only covered around 1000 miles since. I would assume the recommended oil was used but did think, for the summer months at least, that a slightly thicker oil may be in order. It will interesting to hear w...

Engine rattle.
Apologies as I may have already posted this all be it the wrong section. 2006 RT with 25000 miles starts from cold with no problem or undue noise but when warm/hot you get a very brief top end rattle from start up. Its gone in a second or two and I wondered if this is common or should I be concerned...

Changing battery.
2006 RT. Not sure of the age of my battery, looks to have been on the bike a while. Currently fitted is a Varta 19ah 170amp, It has never let me down, yet, but I do keep it on trickle between rides. However it worries me on start up as the cranking speed appears slow,( new to the RT.) A tester shows...

Top end engine rattle on start up when warm.
Hi. 2006 RT with 25000 miles starts without any problem with no undue noise from cold but on restarting whilst the engine is warm/hot you often get a very brief top end rattle. Its gone in a matter of a second or two. I wonder if this is common. Engine oil and level is good.
