Re: Falling into slow corners
They call it 'target fixation' in the trade, we have all suffered it at some time, get your vision up to where you want to be, in the distance and you and the bike will get there. I'm told that one should first check way ahead then a glance for any surface hazards but return to the distan...

Re: usb port in radio control location (or other USB locations)
Hey, thanks for the diagram David. I'm a bit challenged with the diagram being a more mechanical than electrical guy, but I surmise that none of the pinouts would power the phone.
Much appreciated though.
EDIT, pin 18 says power but I found none with a meter - with the bike running (and not)

Re: usb port in radio control location (or other USB locations)
Just checked 'em - nothing over .06 when it's running. zero when it's not. There may be some internal stuff going on that needs two pins connected to change output to another one but without a diagram, I have no idea and the choices are nearly endless if I were to try some guessing. Without the diag...

Re: usb port in radio control location (or other USB locations)
So far, I've had zero luck and may end up making a simple connector that touches the correct male pins just to power the phone. Mini-B pinouts are easily found on google. Here is the closest diagram I have found - sadly it's lacking the labels for the pinouts. I'll just find the 12v and ground with ...

Re: usb port in radio control location (or other USB locations)
I suppose I could use a meter and just start testing the pinouts as that's what I'm trying to achieve - a connection at the gold pins directly on the GPS mount. The plan would be to find the proper connector that would fit those gold pins and modify the cover to have the opposite connector. From tha...

Re: Flashing warning lights at startup
Not that experienced but I recently picked up my 2013 from a dealer - the warnings lights at startup are normal - dealer said it's going through a systems check.
Once you take off, they should quit.
Did you get an owner's manual?
Enjoy

Re: usb port in radio control location (or other USB locations)
Thanks David, yeah, I found that link as well and is a great source for 12v. That said, as I think more about it (dangerous),I'd really like to cook something up that would use the GPS mount which I will never use and is in the way of my current clamp-on phone mount. There's a nice snap on cover ove...

Re: usb port in radio control location (or other USB locations)
That's a better location for me as I mount the phone next to the GPS mount right now and have to rout the USB cable around a few bits. It would be nice to have a connector/mount that used the BMW gps connector and slip on mount/cover and even some of the farkley switches on the left side of the moun...

Re: usb port in radio control location (or other USB locations)
Yup - I was thinking the same. I hate to modify the stock holes for the next owner (after I'm gone), but if they wanted a radio, they'd be better off buying a bike with one as adding one later could be quite expensive.
Thanks for the photos!

Re: Heed Engine Crash Bars
I think the bars look fine - like they serve an obvious purpose. I just did a slow freeway crash on a 1000 V-strom when someone looked up from their phone and noticed some space in the next lane. I almost stopped in time but no joy (no ABS). Other than very sore ribs, I'm fine but the bike was a tot...

usb port in radio control location (or other USB locations)
I have a new to me 2013RT and was wondering if anyone has installed a USB outlet in the cover that goes over the radio control cutouts on the left of the fairing. Obviously it would need to be waterproof and align with one of the eight holes where the switches would go (if one had a radio). I discov...

Didn't see a new member intro section so I thought I'd post here. Just picked up a 2013 RT today to replace the 1000 V Strom I wrecked in a low speed smashup last week. Been riding for many years and this was my first. No harm to me other than some real sore ribs but the bike is a total loss due to ...
