Re: Trip Plans For 2018
From south to north and then further. Starting on the south coast, north via the west coast to John o'Groats (where else) and then on to Orkney to pay my respects to a Great Uncle and his shipmates who lost their lives when HMS Royal Oak was sunk at Scapa Flow. Taking another ferry journey to Shetla...

Re: R1200RTW BMW Weather protection kit
I can help with the lower sections, which are separate to the parts around the passenger footrests. To fit the lower 2 sections you have to remove the the 2 engine spoilers, the black plastic sections around the lower half of the engine and clip the front lower sections from the weather protection k...

Re: Luddites
Surely what we are discussing here would be more correctly referred to as technophobia, rather than luddism or even neo-luddism. There is no rule that an increase in functionality leads to a corresponding increase in unreliability, in fact I can think of many examples where the reverse is true and i...

Re: Weather Protection R1200RT LC
The parts I have listed are just for the protection around the gear change and brake, they are items 4,8,32,40 & 44 on the diagram that you have linked to. I would suggest for additional protection around the passenger foot rests rather than use the remaining parts on the diagram I would look at...

Re: Tie down points when using a trailer
I have found this style of short webbing loops really useful, they keep the hooks of rachet straps way from the bike and they are narrow so they can be feed easily, avoiding brake lines etc.

Re: Hard shell tank bag
I know that this isn't a tank bag, but something like this https://peliproducts.co.uk/1150-protector-case.html strapped to the rack and secured with a cable lock or permanently fixed using some diy brackets might be an idea. If you want to fit it to the tank sw-motech will supply just the bag fitmen...

Adding an Alarm Remote - LC 2014 onwards
Having tried and failed to add another alarm remote key fob to my 2014 R1200RT following the instructions in the handbook, I had a lateral thought and looked at the instructions for the K1600GT. There it was, a whole step has been removed from the R1200RT instructions, about pressing button 2 on the...

Re: How many RT LC owners actually have problems / issues?
Hello, sorry for digging up such an old topic, but at least here you can see previous problems with my bike. Unfortunately there were/are more issues. It's a lengthy post, so here's outline: 1. Unprofessional mechanic - screwed screw 2. Corroded muffler 3. Squeaky flap in exhaust (2nd one) 4. Front...

Re: Alarm problem
I don't know if this helps. Yesterday, I was removing the cover from my 2014 RT and the alarm started to bleep, a single tone beep about twice a second, and shortly afterwards the alarm went off. I had the alarm set to auto arm and I guess this warning tone is to remind you to turn off the alarm. It...

Re: Weather Protection R1200RT LC
In response, my hope is that this protection, which was designed for the Police versions, should cut off another path for road grim hitting the panniers and keep my toes a little warmer ;) My previous bike had extreme tupperwear (K1200LT) I don't want to repeat that but, I didn't like the ...
