Good luck healing and enjoy riding when you get well enough. Your experience is a great reminder that riding is as much mental as it is physical, and a moments distraction may be a moment too long.

Re: Warming Up Before Riding
The thought that came to mind was, from what temperature is the bike starting from? If it's seriously cold, yes, warm up the bike a bit to allow the lubricants and other fluids to warm up some. If it's not seriously cold there is no need for any extended warm up period. With that context, I let my b...

Re: Tie down points when using a trailer
OP what makes this simple is using a wheel chock on your trailer, that is secured to the trailer deck. Once the front wheel is securely in the chock securing the front end is easy. The point of force of the tie down is on a fixed, non sprung area. Once the front end is secure you really only need mi...

Re: Poor FM reception
OP - I have a 2014 and did not like the antenna that is unattractive and eyeball poking height. So my radio reception is not great with the stubby micro antenna I installed. As an alternative I use a $7 USB Bluetooth receiver that has an aux style output which I plug into the aux input. So the USB p...

Re: R1200RT 2014 VS 2017
I brought my 14 into the dealer for new tires when I bought it. They ran the VIN and besides the shock replacement which was done by the original owner there were two additional recalls. The start button and a firmware update which controls transmission functionality. Both the start button and firmw...

Re: Ilium Sport Board Review
Thanks Littlebriar, your real world feedback is exactly what I was looking for. All your points make perfect sense to me, the lack of vibration dampening is a big deal for me as is the loss of lean angle. If my wife wants a passenger set I will get them for her, otherwise will be sticking with the s...

Ilium Sport Board Review
I've searched for reviews on the Ilium sport boards and found very little information. I own a 2014 RT and am considering adding both passenger and rider sets. Would appreciate hearing real world feedback, do you love them, hate them, only like them for long trips? Do you suggest shift or brake leve...

Re: R1200RT 2014 VS 2017
Good luck Joakim, hope your purchase works out well. I did the same, I bought a well cared for used 2014 with 6000 miles and saved $12,000 compared to a new 2017. I recently discovered the wheeping water pump issue, which I will monitor and deal with if it becomes more than a bother. Otherwise the b...

2 iron butts completed, both in the 1100 - 1250 range. Multiple 500 mile days. My ideal distance is 250 - 350 per day.

Re: Newbie from Arizona USA
When it's hot in Phoenix and the sun is beating on you, windscreen doesn't make that much of a difference. Even the "breeze" with no windscreen will cook you. Think of those hot air only popcorn makers from the 1990s. I bought a slightly larger windscreen for the RT, I found the stock scre...

Re: Newbie from Arizona USA
Grew up in New England but now I'm a total desert rat. I've met lots of riders from all over the world that have come to the southwest to ride. Always fun to see such enthusiasm in their faces when they're stopped taking in the views. Alas it was 109 degrees today, no riding for me. Maybe ...

Re: Newbie from Arizona USA
F800GT: F6B is a wonderful bike, but it's not a sport touring bike. No matter how many cruiser or full touring bikes I've owned I still end up returning to a sport touring ride. I've had 3 sprint STs, a Concours (newest gen), and now the BMW. The flexibility of riding styles offered by the BMW combi...

Re: 2015 R1200Rt starting issue
Have observed same symptom, mine is intermittent. I found leaving the starter engaged for just slightly longer than I feel it should be engaged it starts on the first try. But as mentioned above, could just be a characteristic of the bike.
