Re: Why did BMW change sides for the final drive/muffler
I'm only pulling this out of...well...let's say "thin air" but maybe the redesign of the transmission and relocation of the clutch might have moved the transmission shafts around enough that moving the output shaft to the other side was required? That might have been a factor as well. It w...

Re: Name that seat
I have all three OEM seats for my RT (I bought it used with two and bought one used). I strongly recommend you do NOT buy the so-called extra-low seat. Here are my observations (FYI, I have a 29" inseam and my bike has the factory-lowered, non-ESA suspension), hope this helps: Regular: Nicely p...

Re: Transmission and Final Drive capacities?
From the Haynes manual, for a 2012 TC RT, the Gearbox oil capacity is 700ml (fill to the lower edge of the filler hole) and the Final drive oil capacity is 180ml. As said, both units use the same, 75w-90 gear oil. 700ml is the correct capacity but as some of that is trapped (due to viscosity) you m...

Re: Grips that you would suggest
I installed a pair of Regrips (google it). They work great, are easy to install (only need to be trimmed for length), and are very inexpensive.

Re: Clutch
So, now that you've taken it apart, how hard was it? Could you do it yourself or did you have to have some help for some parts? Would you say that a mechanically adept, but not professional, person do it without much trouble?

Re: Clutch
Sorry to hear it's something expensive. How many miles does the bike have on it?

Re: Clutch
The system has the slave cylinder mounted on the back side of the transmission inline with the crankshaft (I believe the bearing is inside that cylinder). There's a rod that goes from the slave, through the center of spinning clutch assembly (which is a dry, single-plate type) and seats to the cente...

Re: Clutch
I'm no expert here but isn't the throw-out bearing actually in the slave cylinder? If so, that is much easier to access than the clutch.

Re: Shoei NeoTec 2
I'm at work so can't. Can you post a picture of your strap? I have, well, let's say an 'ample' amount of extra material under my chin and my strap is only about halfway. By this I mean that the metal hoop the strap run through is sitting about halfway between the lid and the male part of the buckle....

Mine was cinched all the way up out of the box. Loosen it and try again.

Re: New To Forum
One piece of advice given to first time riders of the older BMWs was "don't change down to first while still moving" due to the shaft drive and low first gear, which could cause the rear wheel to skid. This doesn't apply to any of the 1200s, which can be ridden like any similar ...

Re: Return to riding
I know from experience when I ride around Spain/France the RT is great, yet when I get back to the UK the RT seems heavier and more unwieldy, just because the roads are different and there's loads more traffic to navigate. Yeah. If I had to maneuver in very tight quarters I could see that being a p...

Re: Return to riding
For reference, the Honda CTX 700 DCT I mentioned, weighs 507 pounds. Even more if you add side cases. For a motorcycle with it's capabilities, the RT is NOT heavy.
