Re: Reducing clutch lever pull force
If the lever is closer to the bar you can make better use of the levers length, which will give you some mechanical advantage.

Re: death by exhaust valve
Changing the engine is a bit of an extreme over reaction, one of the pros of the boxer motor is the cylinders stick out the side, should be an easy job to whip the head off and fit a used replacement. I don't think its much more effort to take the jug off and change the piston either, and the cylind...

Re: battery drain
I'm pretty sure that the special shares most of its wiring with standard, any fuses would be for the special equipment only.
Have you confirmed the alternator is faulty?? If not I can't see much point changing it tbh.

Re: battery drain
Can you give me a brief rundown of the bits that have been disconnected? And also how you are measuring? I feel your pain, these faults can be a nuisance but at least its consistent.. Once an item has been disconnected, if the draw doesnt change do not reconnect the thing, leave it disconnected and ...

Re: battery drain
A new alternator will certainly not fix your problem if i am reading correctly, 0.8A while the thing is switched off is far too high.. usual practice for diagnosing such a problem is to start disconnecting things until the parasitic draw drops to a reasonable level. I don't have a specification for ...

Navigator V
I have a boxed BMW Nav V for sale with all original accessories. Works fine but battery is getting a bit tired. £120 plus postage, can collect or arrange a sensible half way poing to meet.

Re: Trouble with Locking System
I dont think you have to remove much, just the left hand panel (carefully) and the speaker cover.
I would say that the glove box locking bar is quite robust, if its not working it may have slipped off the actuator or something.

Re: Trouble with Locking System
Certainly with the glove box and probably with the pannier, the key lock and central lock are independant. Do the solenoids actuate when the lock button is pressed? Should be easy to tell with the pannier, just take the case off and look for the push rod moving up.

Re: Immobilizer ?
In part. The keyless ride feature is also an 'active transmit' so also requires a battery.

Re: Immobilizer ?
Plenty of car keys have moulded in transponders, the openable compartment is more indicative of central locking where the key has to actively transmit from a greater distance.

I would also write off any ideas of using that connector for anything other than the OEM lights as 'more trouble than its worth'
