Re: Luggage

Agree that the bike looks incomplete without the side cases, and I know that's just an opinion. It's nice to have somewhere to keep tools, heated gear and extra layers. They're always on the bike. Only use the top case when on a longer ride. It's nice to have somewhere secure to store the helmet and...

Leaking front fork

Greetings Fellow Forum Members. 2009 R1200rt 51k Just returned from a 1500 mile trip with the temperature being as high as in the lower 90s, and noticed that one front fork is leaking oil. That tube has been seeping for a while, and I probably should have attended to it sooner. At first I was confid...

Re: Clutch slipping after long(ish) storage

Did you notice any change in the operation of the clutch before putting the motorbike into storage? If so, perhaps it can provide a "window" as to what may be the root cause besides the leaking jug? The season my clutch started acting up, I could smell burning similar to overheated brakes,...

Re: Clutch slipping after long(ish) storage

My '09 began to slip towards then end of last season with under 50k miles on it. BMW shop wanted $3k to make the repair, excluding any seals that may have been bad, so I decided to tackle on my own. After getting it opened up, and I mean opened up (splitting the bike in two), the clutch did not look...

You can check the Beemer Boneyard. It is in the states, but you never know. He sells a lot of used parts.

Re: rider back rest for r1200 rt

The rolling suitcase with the padding is really a nice option. The largest Moto Fizz Camping Bag has been my choice, and because it is so large, it also doubles as a backrest. What recently has become a concern for me is the difficulty having something so large on the back seat that causes me to hav...

Re: Removal of all problem systems...

Just my humble opinion here, but perhaps in some ways all of the new technology has made some of use worse drivers. Personally, I am fond of manual transmissions in all of my vehicles and believe that it has the tendency to make some drivers more attentive and connected.

Re: Rear Brake Pads - '18 R1250RT

Installed EBC sintered in the front of my '09 RT and noticed an immediate difference. They seem to bite quite nicely. Still have the stock pads on the rear.

Ed, thanks for your thoughts! The more that I think about it, one cannot go wrong with replacing the seals. Sounds like smart preventive maintenance.

Re: Getting old

Started riding Japanese inline 4 cylinders when I was 16, and that was a long time ago. Remember picking up my band new Kawasaki KZ1000 in '77 and it scared the hell out of me before I even cracked the throttle wide open. Road that bike for a few years and until I had a mishap heading into northern ...

Re: Clutch Replacement - 2009 R1200RT

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a comprehensive post and sending along the images. When looking at them it seems quite intimidating, but I am ready for the challenge. Just a few more things to get ready in the garage, and a few more tools and parts to be obtained ahead of time. A...

Re: Clutch Replacement - 2009 R1200RT

Thanks David!

I have viewed a few videos and have gained a few useful bits of information. Was hoping too to gather anything valuable from any member(s) that may have done this replacement.

Cheers
