Acceleration dip and running hot

2010 R1200RRT. MU. Some advice please bike had a fluids service. Oil level was a bit high as sight glass misty. Now got it correct. Bike started puffing out oily smoke on start and under hard acceleration. Yesterday on longish run in 23C heat started to run hot at 3rd mark on temp gauge. At junction...

NC500

So yesterday we rode 174 miles from just west of Edinburgh to Inverness. Long but excellent ride and only down side was a sore bum that required 3 stops for bum rubs. Today we did 67 miles from Inverness to Applecross with a stop for lunch at the Kishorn fish bar for a mega lunch. The road from Kish...

Re: Blind spot mirrors

I pinched the idea from another member on here who showed how he built some blind spot mirrors and did the same. Only I used a couple of bits of left over stainless plate as opposed to the plastic that he had used. Also I could not mount mine the same as he did so mine are shown in the pic sticking ...

Re: Dirty bike…

To protect the underside of the bike I built myself a belly pan for my 2010 RT. I made it from 1mm stainless plate and using stainless tie wraps secured it the under carriage. It works well in keeping crap off the underside and exhaust and also saved my drive way from oil stains when I had an oil le...

Maintenance and belly pan

So just had my first real experience of carrying out routine maintenance on my 2010 r1200rt. It seems to me that bmw have gone out of their way to make it difficult for the home mechanic. Good lord. Just taking the plastic off is a tribulation. Not to mention changing the final drive oil and those a...

Re: Foot peg lowering kit for RT

Mine have been great since fitting. Make a big difference to comfort and decreased knee stiffness on longer rides. I also step on them when getting on and off with no problems They take my weight well.
Adding a gel seat has also helped big style.
Enjoy.

Re: Bouncy ride

Back to 36. 42 on single rider. Bike feels so stable and planted. Sport for the twisties and normal for every thing else. Comfort is to soft and tenuous. Might get the shock refurbished in time. But for now that’s it. Thanks everyone

Re: Bouncy ride

Yes I tried to see the changes as I scrolled through the three settings. There may have been some change but very small, found it hard to be certain. While riding bike feels different especially if going from sport to comfort mode. In any case will put tyre pressures back up and keep on riding. Lol....

Re: Bouncy ride

So to update had a look at shock and no leakage that I can see. But not sure there is movement on changing the setting between comfort. Normal and sport. Changed to rider plus luggage and lowered tyre pressure to 32/36. What a difference. Horrid. Back end was all soft and wobbly in the turns. Bike w...

Bouncy ride

Hi folks a question about suspension I think. I have not long bought a 2010 RT. Very impressed with handling in all conditions so far and been riding it as much as poss in all weather. Very stable bike slow handling superb. Only issue I have with it is that the ride is rather bouncy esp on the A and...

Re: Parts

Just ordered the Haynes manual. As soon as we get some dry weather here in centre Scotland will get out and check discs and pads etc.

Thanks for the advice.

Re: Parts

On a slightly different note been looking for a workshop manual for the 2010 rt. preferably in paper format. If anyone has such a beastie they could sell to me be very appreciative. I too like to do everything new when I buy a second hand bike so will be doing all the fluids etc once weather warms u...
