1st year Service

Just booked my bike in for it's 1st year service,  £195  all in,  told that includes engine and final drive oils plus they're going to do the gear change update whilst it's in.
Wouldn't seem so bad but as I've only managed to do 1400 miles since I got it new it feels a bit harsh.

I have yet to have mine but a full 6000/1 year Im sure is a bit more than £195 so they seem to be looking after you due to the low mileage.  Hopefully.

Had 6k service a couple of weeks ago - cost £205 - 6500 on the clock, just over a year from new.
Was given same figure by 2 dealers so sounds like the going rate.

Well thats always going to be the problem if you do low miles. If you think about it, if they do all the items they are meant to then it cost the dealer the same in time whether your bike has 1400 miles or 6000 miles on the clock.

If the Bike is 1 year old, but hasn't covered 6,000 miles, the main difference in costs will be that the Valve Clearances will not be checked at the Service.

My 2012 Twin Cam is now over 3 Years old & has had 3 Dealer Services + a Running-in Check, the last one at 3,160 miles in April 2015.

(Checked the Valve Clearances myself at 6,860 miles.)

If its been a year they should have flushed the break fluid, no matter the miles.

All depends what model of bike you have. For a LC model bought new then it would require at first annual service the brake fluid changed ( there after its every 2 years ) and an oil and filter change. Spark plugs, air filter and valve check is every 12K no time restriction. Final drive is 12K or every 2 years.

When I booked mine in over the phone they didn't even ask the mileage, just took it as a first year /6000 service.

Ideally I guess doing 6k miles a year is the way to go?  That way you'd get  the 6k and annual service done at the same time

For the 1st Service on an LC, there is really no difference had the Bike done 6,000 miles.

The Oil & Filter is changed irrespective of the mileage & the Brake Fluid is done at Year 1, then every 2 Years as previously mentioned.

In theory there is no difference in a 6000 mile or an annual service, its just what you get to first. Those of us that reach 6000 on or before the 12 months are up normally pay a lot more as you have to add a pair of tyres to the bill.
