Re: Norway
If payment is made in a currency other than the local one, do you get any change in the local currency.
(When we were in Switzerland, we could use Euros & the change was given in Swiss Francs).

I don't know as I has Krone when I was there. But I imagine you would get change in the local currency.

Re: Norway
I can smell and taste gluhwein mit schuss (not sure if that's the correct spelling) in my head as I speak, yummy for those not familiar it's a mulled red wine with a shot of rum, but much, much better on those Christmas shopping experiences. You can substitute the rum for any shot of spirit, but try the rum first, it's the only time I drink rum.

Re: Norway
Was speaking to a Lady yesterday, who had just returned from a week in Norway.
She showed me a receipt which had a price both in Euros & NOK, yes the exchange rate was crap, but looks like she could have paid in Euros.
Did an "exchange rate" deal with her & now have some NOK for our trip. Will take Euros & a Credit Card for Germany, Denmark & Sweden.
Thanks for your replies, looking forward to the trip now.

Haven't used the guys myself yet, but they are local to me and I have heard some good reports.

Easy enough to do your own with a bit of research - especially around Europe.
I've always found the planning to be at least half the fun and I love the sense of finally reaching places that I've only visited on a map beforehand. The group I ride with isn't particularly hard-core and we're all the wrong side of 50 - some quite a long way the wrong side! We've made DIY trips all over the place, including Alaska, up the Dalton Highway and over the Denali.
This year for the first time in ages we used a guide on our on/off-road Iceland trip. On balance, it was probably worth it. The guide was good fun and his local knowledge definitely improved the off-road parts of the trip. I did miss the sense of achievement that goes with DIY though...

Re: Norway
Having spent 4 Days getting to Norwway (Lillehammer), travelling through Germany, Denmark & Sweden, then 4 Days back from Bergen via a Ferry to Denmark,
it would be great to go back to Norway especially if a Ferry starts in 2016 from the UK.

Re: Norway
The Halifax Clarity MasterCard was certainly the way to go in Norway, the best exchange rate was 13.0 NOK to £1.
The current Ramsdens Cash exchange rate is 12.336 NOK to £1.
Glad we didn't take too much cash.
