Further searching has come up with K&N who list a KN-164 for the 1600, http://www.knfilters.co.uk/search/produ ... rod=KN-164
& a KN-160, http://www.knfilters.co.uk/search/produ ... rod=KN-160 for the LC RT.

The Product Specifications confirm that the LC RT Filter is longer by 16mm & the OD is 1mm more, both Cross reference with the BMW Part Nos.

Just got off phone with BMW rep
Oil filters last numbers 541-01 and 541-02 are in fact the same no issue using the -01 filter on a LCRT
Just a case where later filter has a superseded number

K52 LC RT Oil Filter, http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpar ... Id=11_3820.

K48 K1600 Oil Filter, http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpar ... Id=11_3820.

When speaking to my local BMW Dealer, I've quoted Part Nos. from RealOEM & they are the same as those they have on their systems.

DaygloDavid wrote: From what I can see, the K1600 (K48) & R1200 (K26) pre-LC Models share the same Oil Filter & Part No. 11427673541.
The LC RT (K52) Oil Filter Part No. is 11427721779.
This thread from BMWSportTouring, http://bmwsporttouring.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=881273&page=2, also suggests that the Oil Filters are indeed different.
A Guy swapped some K26 Filters for K52 ones at his Dealer & another says the K52 ones are slightly larger.
Mine came from the factory w a hex head filter. The local BMW guru told me to use the Mahle 619.
It also came from the factory w 200ml in the FD.
Of those who have changed their own FD oil, how did it look? Mine was jet black and not very viscous at 688miles. The engine oil was pristine.

It appears the mother ship mixes up filters from the factory, our local bmw master mechanic has scene several different filters on the new RT coming in for 600 mile service
When I posed the question about the filters I mentioned previously, his words were if it fits and doesn't leak us it. No difference if filter is horizontal or vertical
Am I the only one who thought the factory final drive oil had a funny smell and almost black in color

When I drained my final drive oil at 6K (this is just my preference the BMW service limit is 12K) I too got 200 ml out. Why who knows but the correct amount is 180 ml. My oil was also black and smelly. My second change at 12K was less black more a dark grey. I'm told that eventually after more changes it should come out clean. Something to do with the moly assembly lube they use at the factory. Time will tell.

In the MAHLE range of Filters, the OC 306 fits pre-LC 1200 RT's & if the OC 619 is for an LC, (as per BMW), then again they are different sizes, but check out with the BMW Part Nos.

I reset the service interval to again 600miles to redo the fd. It wasnt only the color, but how thin it appeared. If there are other assembly liquids reducing the gear oil I want them rinsed out. Besides its a breeze to do the FD now relative to my 07. Ill post a pic of the oil at 1200miles.
