Hi all, I thought some of you may be interested in seeing my air filter as changed yesterday. The BMW original lasted 8500 miles and this one - a Hiflo - has brought me up to 15800 miles so not a great deal of difference except in price. The obvious dirt and dead insects don't appear to have had a great effect on fuel economy as I have been getting about 57mpg consistently commuting and over 60mpg on a 900 mile round trip to Cornwall last week.
I'm doing a valve check and adjust tomorrow as I know I've got one that is at or outside of spec.

Re: Air filter
Interesting that the BMW recommended Service Interval is every 12,000 miles.
My 2012 TC RT had done 6,860 miles in 3 years, the air filter was quite dirty, so decided to change it whilst the panels were off.
Hiflo or Mahle air filters are approx. half the price of BMW ones, therefore they can be changed twice as often for the same cost.

Re: Air filter
Again, whilst the Panels were off, changed the Air Filter after only 4,000 miles, especially as they are only just over a Tenner each if you buy a pair.DaygloDavid wrote:Hiflo or Mahle air filters are approx. half the price of BMW ones, therefore they can be changed twice as often for the same cost.

Re: Air filter
Once again, got the panels off my RT & checked the air filter.
After only 5,000 miles, it's fairly dirty, would like to see one after 12,000 miles as recommended by BMW.
As above, for the cost, will be replacing with a new one from my store cupboard.

Re: Air filter
K&N claim that their air filter for the RT, "Lasts up to 50,000 miles before cleaning is required depending on driving conditions"
www.knfilters.co.uk/search/product.aspx?prod=BM-1204
That would certainly be cost effective, could "fit & forget".

Re: Air filter
At £8.93, this looks like a good price on a Hiflo HFA7914 from Chains & Sprockets, Hiflo Filtro HFA7914 OE Replacement Air Filter – Chains and Sprockets

Re: Air filter
Has anyone purchased an air filter for a Camhead recently, be that BMW 13 71 7 706 414 or Hiflo HFA7914.
The BMW filter (#2) is £21.38 from this online parts store, https://bmwsupply.co.uk/part/details?se ... w=btdetail
I recently changed mine with one from stock. Ordered a replacement from MSG Bike Gear for £8.59 (free delivery), https://www.msgbikegear.co.uk/products/ ... a646&_ss=r and was surprised that the HFA7914 construction has altered.
It now has a metal cross in front of the paper element, whereas previously, there was none. This change seems to have taken place over the last year.
I can't find a photo of the bare paper element, but this is what it looks like now.
