OEM Top Box for 2015 RT
Re: OEM Top Box for 2015 RT
I hope you are correct but with warranty issues it's not the dealership who decides its BMW UK. I also only deal with one dealership knowing they will look after me. I sometimes find it difficult to understand those who will try to play one dealer off against another over a few quid but still expect instant service from their local one when things go a bit wrong. Loyalty works both ways in my book.

Best quote I got was in the $1100+ range. That's about $400, and is a substantial amount.Steve F wrote: £760 (at least) from the dealer .v. £560 from the German web site (incl. of coded locks and shipping).

There is a youtube video that shows you how to set the lock cylinder to match your key. You can look at the cutouts on your key and figure out the settings for each notch. It's a pretty easy process, after watching him do it.Steve F wrote: Yes, I spotted that it was the basic box hence my earlier question. Coding locks eh? Any ideas what the dealers generally charge for this 'service'?

No loyalty to be had at my dealer, as they offered me virtually no discount on parts after purchase of a new RT, for which they tried to charge me $800 assembly fee. I made it clear that fee was not even under consideration.

$800 to do what. They only have to screw the pannier lids and the screen on.
Re: OEM Top Box for 2015 RT
They said, "we've found that the BMW's take about 8 hours shop time to assemble". I told them we'd talk about a price for the bike once that fee was scratched off the invoice.
Re: OEM Top Box for 2015 RT
That is total crap. Somebody should advise BMW USA that one of their dealers is a rip off merchant.
Re: OEM Top Box for 2015 RT
Hehe.... Maybe their mechanics really need 8 hours for that... In that case though, I would sure look for another place for the service....RTman10 wrote: That is total crap. Somebody should advise BMW USA that one of their dealers is a rip off merchant.
Thinking of that, though - if you either get scamped or you would not trust them to do your service, or both, I would probably by the bike elsewhere.

Had a word with my dealer yesterday. They reckon 30 minutes to get it out the crate and bolt bits on. The only other work needed is the PDI. That takes about 1 1/2 hrs but is not chargeable as it is in the list price.
Re: OEM Top Box for 2015 RT
Watching the youtube video, keying the lock takes 20 minutes max. I misjudged one tumbler and had to back up a step, but it was simple, even for an idiot like myself.
For anyone who has painted their case, it looks like the outer shell just unscrews from the actual structural lid, and I don't have to mess with the struts and such, correct?

So, has anyone who bought the basic (ie less hi-level brake light, carpet, wiring loom etc) 49 litre top box for the 2014 onwards LC RT since been able to buy the light kit and associated wiring loom, which also activates central locking (assuming the bike has the option fitted) ?
My reason in asking is that I do not want to shell out huge amounts for the fully loaded box, but instead buy the basic box (eg from moto24) and then get a high-level brake light kit plus the associated loom.

I bought the basic box from Moto24, but I couldn't get a straight answer from the dealer as to whether the add-on harness would work or not. Since the bike isn't equipped with central locking, he couldn't speculate as to whether that harness would throw faults to the system or not. I'm going with this 95 LED light instead (http://www.customdynamics.com/truflex_f ... ghting.htm), and the wiring should be pretty straight forward. It's <$100 vs. about $360 or so. Plus, this set up will allow the LED to be both taillight and brake light.

Okay. Thanks for the response mercator1. I'm still in discussion with the dealer over here re availability of brake light kit and loom......watch this space!! I'll be interested to hear how you get on with the 95 LED light set-up.
