Garmin Express says the File Size is 5.11 GB & the Estimated Installation Time is 3 hours, perhaps they are wrong.

Think I remember  seeing that as well.  I registered and updated a new one on Sunday and that took 5 hours but was manufacturer about 5 months ago.
But my own which was up to date until this one arrived  was all done in 18 minutes.

Would like to do the latest 2016.10 Map Update, Garmin Express says that a Memory Card is needed as all the information will not fit on the Device's internal memory.

Garmin recommend at least 4 GB Card which I have installed, (max. 32 GB), do I just get a bigger Card & try again.

Hi David, cut & pasted from my previous post 31/3, which may help re SD card size. ( The guy at Customer Services recommended future proof the updates requirements with a 16 gb card.

For my 660, I followed the advice from Garmin customer Services and deleted all the non English files on the device, in particular the `Help' files and `Voices' this freed up enough space for the last `update' . I did a backup first though, just in case, but have had no problems thus far. Also now bought a 16 gb SD micro card which I will use next time. It was suggested having a couple of cards to `alternate' for updates in the event you need to reload a previous version for some reason and that a 8gb would be more than sufficient ( and minimum recommended ),but a 16 would obviously be better, as gradually these updates seem to be taking up more space each time there is a `new release' . Just delete files via you Computer ;)

if you have installed the card when you click to download the update it should indicate how much of the world you can have, ie the whole of Europe. If it decided you haven't got enough it will offer you less like just western Europe. A 4GB card is plenty big enough if its not full of music etc.

After speaking to someone who has done the 2016.10 Update, he suggested that I reformatted my 4 GB SD Card & try again.

Hey Presto, cleared the Card & the Update is now ongoing.

Thanks for your help & replies.

I did the update and then my Nav V stopped charging. No idea if the update is responsible. Fortunately Benhams loaned me a replacement for an upcoming trip

Having spoken to Garmin, it is possible that this latest map update (2016.20) is only currently available for BMW Nav. V's.

Has anyone found it for other Devices, e.g. Zumo 660.

My Garmin Express says, "You're up to date!" with Software Version: 5.10 & Map: Full Coverage of Europe 2016.10.
