I know. GPS. And no now 3 years of models on, still the same button. The good news is the more times you take it off and on the less the button sticks in.

I am not worthy oh Omnipotent one of course I should have realised that was what he was talking about, forgive me oh clown of red hair for not knowing the obvious. I am off to lay on my bed of nails as penance, ouch!
Re: Still no locking system or gadget???
I'm working on a mechanism - using the same electric engine as locking the fearing pockets - so the GPS will lock on when using the remote etc ^-^
But , my concern is that the locking tab on the holder is NOT strong enough to prevent a theft - even if locked.
To easy just to drag the GPS out of the holder - even with the button locked.

I actually find it difficult to get the satnav out of the cubbyhole it's in, the amount of times I have nearly dropped it is quite a few. I never leave my satnav on the bike unless it's coming in doors. However, Steinar I am sure that some deterrent is better than no deterrent. They do say if somebody wants it (talking about thieves) they will take it, but the longer it takes them the greater the risk of being caught.
Re: Still no locking system or gadget???
I have the locking kit fitted to mine, and while I know it wouldn't really stop anyone taking the satnav for me I feel it just gives a little peace of mind while say popping into the shop etc STeinar wrote: I'm working on a mechanism - using the same electric engine as locking the fearing pockets - so the GPS will lock on when using the remote etc ^-^

Interesting to read, as this is exactly how I'm working on mine :-)Benchmark wrote: I have the locking kit fitted to mine, and while I know it wouldn't really stop anyone taking the satnav for me I feel it just gives a little peace of mind while say popping into the shop etc
Good documented also - grate job ^-^
Only difference is that I'm trying to block the upper locking mechanism on the top of the holder to be able to be lifted.
This as I find that it's easier to dismount the GPS - if only the push-button is blocked.
More to come
Re: Still no locking system or gadget???
First off i'am terrible at posting pictures sorry!!
I fixed the locking problem for the GPS at a cost of about 25 american cents!
Solution was very simple, remove windshield, look straight down at locking button, drill a 1/16 hole in button about 1/8 inch out from GPS housing
I then installed a stainless aircraft sheet metal screw along with 2 small washers into release button
With screw I place not possible to press release button, once windshield back on in PARKED position, no longer possible to access sheet metal screw
I know it's not hi tech or BMW approved but it works
If you want pictures post a email address and I can send some

Re: Still no locking system or gadget???
Nice simple idea to lock permanently but thats the problem you cannot now easily take it out to plug into a computer for route downloads or maintenance. It really is about time BMW fixed this problem along with the digital speedo MPH to KPH issue. However as we are still buying I guess nobody gives a sh *t.
