+1 agree. Castrol Syntrax Longline 75W-90 is the recommended oil for 2014 RT LC bikes.

On my 2007 RT, (same as 2005),I seem to remember Castrol SAF-XO was used in the Final Drive.

Castrol have replaced SAF-XO with Syntrax Long Life 75W-90, http://www.castrol.com/en_nz/new-zealan ... 5w-90.html,
therefore all the 3 RT Models now used the same Final Drive oil.

I use whatever the dealer puts in it!

To steal a line from Edmund Blackadder, "I'm one of those people quite happy to wear cotton but I have absolutely no idea how it works"...

Does the Dealer charge for the amount of oil used, (e.g. 180 ml in a TC),  or for 1 litre which would be the Unit Price.

When the dealer did mine at the free run in service ( 600 + miles ) they overfilled it ! Put in 200 ml One reason why I do my own. Second reason it cost me £3 to change the oil and 10 mins of my time. Bet you BMW charge a lot more than £3 !!

One of the gripes I had with Cooper Sunderland was,

on the 2007 RT, they changed the final drive oil at 600 miles and charged me for 1 litre of oil at around £27 per litre.

On the 2010 RT, Barrie Robson (York),charged for 0.2 litre (£6.63),the cost per litre was £33.12.

Just changed the Final Drive oil on my 2012 TC this morning, at a cost of £2.50 for the oil used.

Have ordered a Syringe to make life easier next time, it was a bit of a slow process with a small funnel & some air line tubing, especially on a cold day.

This looks like the BMW stuff, http://www.ascycles.com/detail.aspx?ID=123778, for use in all 2005-later BMW shaft drive bikes.

This is how you do it on the first 1200 RT's which don't have a drain plug.

Perhaps why on my 2007 RT, the oil was changed at 600 miles, then in for life.

Thats hilarious. Its a joke right ? You are meant to take the back wheel out, undo the torque arm bolt and swivel the final drive to drain the oil. Good thing someone at BMW had the bright idea of installing a drain bolt on the later bikes. ???
