Just wondering  (out of curiosity) what the service charges are on the new RT.

Mine is a 2011 RT and I go independent, just paid £160 for full service that's all oils changed (not air filter or plugs) Brake and clutch fluid changed, 

  brakes stripped and cleaned.  Valves checked  and the fitting of a new horn.

But I took the fairing off and put it back on.  I remember my last service on a 2005 RT at the dealers was £550, a lot of difference.

I understand the water cooled RT is much cheaper to service.

At my dealer, Roy Pidcock service charges on an LC are approx.
6000  £180.  12000 £300.  An annual is somewhere in between depending on mileage.  That of course includes any software updates it might need.

Oil change on this side of the pond runs 150-200 dollars depending on dealer
I have found I can buy BMW filters and 5-40 Castrol synthetic on Amazon along with a quart of 75/90 gear lube, this brings my oil change price down to about $60 if I DIY
I have the room, tools and ability and quite frankly enjoy it
We have two BMW bikes, so a GS911 tool made great sense, for the RT I bought the DVD from Jim vanborden
Part of the dealer charge is resetting service reminder, which the 911 tool takes care of

Looking at the Service Schedules for a TC v's an LC, the differences are:-

Checking Valve Clearances, every 6,000 miles on a TC & every 12,000 miles on an LC.

No Gearbox-oil or Generator Belt to change on an LC.

Correcting Engine Synchronization (Throttle Bodies) is required on a TC, not on an LC.

Therefore, yes, the servicing on an LC should be cheaper.

Only two spark plugs on the LC.

All I've had so far is the 600 service, and it was $275 US.  Still not sure what they did for that money, other than change the oil.

I would imagine it's the same for an RT.

Changing oil in bevel gears (Final Drive),  is also included.

By the time you've paid for the Oils & Filter, £65.86 for my TC, plus 1.0 to 1.5 hours labour, it sounds about right for a BMW Dealer, £184.61 or $275.

The 600 miles Running-in Check on my TC, cost the Original Owner £100.00 Labour only in 2012.

BMW Service charges are ridiculous, Cooper Sunderland charge £93.60 per hour for labour.

The 6,000 miles Service, is basically, an oil & filter change plus visual checks.

This is very similar to that of the 600 miles Running-in Check, which includes the additional Final Drive oil change.

At approx. £180, this seems to be the going rate either side of the Atlantic.

Yup labour charges are crazy. However someone has to pay for the shiny showrooms and free coffee. My advice is if you cannot do it yourself and you are not prepared to pay main dealer prices then find a good independent workshop who will charge considerable less. My soak box moan is not the high labour charge but the mind blowing charge for oil which considering they are bulk users is taking the piss ! Example my local dealers charge between £16 - £18 for a litre of Castrol Power 1 Racing 5W40 I bought the same oil including delivery charges for £8 a litre. BMW have now switched to Shell oil no doubt they got a better deal, I wonder how much they will charge us. Rant over  >:(

Shell (BMW packaged)is about the same price as Castrol was in my dealer.

Is it possible / acceptable to supply own oil, for £10 hardly worth the effort I suppose.

I've seen it happen. You need to be a bit thick skinned to stand in the queue with others checking their bikes in clutching 4 or 5 bottles of oil. You instantly get branded a tight git. But why not. I've even come across those who ask for their old spark plugs back so they can pass them down to their mates.
