Where to buy an Akropovic/Remus slip on can?

Post by Peter Baker »

Hi, After nearly 5 years with K1600GTs I have just traded for 2015 R1200RT that I pick up next week.  The LE has everything someone could want in terms of options:-) however I need a better "note" I am tending towards either an Akrapovic or Remus slip on can as they both have removal baffles...  I have checked the usual places like Nippy Normans and of course e-bay.  Any other places I should be checking for a good price?  Thanks in advance, Peter

I've come the same route as you with a couple of GTLs over 4 years.  I was convinced I would miss the 1600 howl and in the past had a BMW Akrapovic on an RT.  The LC might be a but muted at lower speeds but wind it up and it growls.  Also in the past had a Remus on an 1150RT. Noise was good, quality wasn't.

I also had a 1600 for three years, being to cheap to spend $1500 on aftermarket exhaust. I opened up the upper and lower holes on each muffler, improved 1600 sound 100% at no cost. Gonna study the muffler on my new RT carefully to see if a modification is in order, will keep everyone posted

I was thinking of replacing my standard can on my 2014 LC with an Akropovic but read somewhere recently that it doesn't give any extra power.
I have been recommended to :

Come the new year, and better weather, I'll take a ride up to see them and have a chat.

A quick look at the site doesn't seem to show any for the LC. Don't think any of them will give you any noticeable power increase, just some loss of weight and more noise. I think the stock item is a very well finished bit of kit anyway. .

I put an Akra on my LC.  It sounds fabulous and (as an added bonus) it doesn't look dirty all the time like the bike lump of shiny chrome that the bike came with...

I like chrome, I like the sound and I guess I like my OEM exhaust.

When I first collected the bike with the Akra fitted, the dealer had left the baffle out.  Now that was too loud - especially for an RT!

I got the Akrapovic BMW style one without the yellow and red sticker. Got 20% discount at Bahnstormer Maidenhead.  Was about 4 weeks ago. Dunno if they are still offering the discount. Expensive but less than full price. Most dealers I rang would offer 15% if asked.
