According to the latest brochure, on page 7, ' Note for 2016 all BMW R1200RT models will come with drivetrain and chassis in Black'. I also haven't seen one yet, it's gonna be nice though!

I wouldn't worry - the black paint will probably all fall off anyway...

Black engine and drive, hmm.  Should show the stone chips up nicely, thus giving you the chance to get the touch up paint on before it oxidises !!!

Apparently just the shaft and frame.  Its like that on the 1600s. With them you couldn't see much of the shaft because of the exhaust .  Black is obviously cheaper to apply than the silver but definitely easier to touch up if you get chips.

Yes but brown is easier to spell :-)

Just a point of information. I ordered my 2016 RT in October 2015. It arrived in December with Platinum Bronze Metallic paint (no choice unless I gave up my production line spot) and Silver drive line.
Black may be a mid year change. Don't think I would prefer it over the silver. Just looks right as is.  :alas:
Oh the places we will go

Mine's usually quite close to black at this time of year - does that count?

Thanks to RTman10, the mystery has been solved.

"If you haven't seen one yet. Note the frame and cylinder heads stay silver."

New paint finish.
