Yep, leave them on.  They cost a lot less than end cans, final drives and top fairings.

You wouldn't have the part number by any chance ?

My tuppence worth. Protecting the heads seems sensible. Riding with panniers on is a real safety issue. A car turned into me and this was the result. I didn't even get knocked off.
His wing was totalled. He paid for a new cylinder head cover, bolts, seals etc £400. Pannier lower scratched but it polished out. (A new pannier lid would have cost him another £200). My left leg, protected by cylinder and pannier, untouched.
I've gone for crash bars and now always ride the bike with its panniers.

Hi, my rt has Krauser crash bars fitted to protect the heads, they were on the bike when I bought it, also a handy place to mount spot/fog lights if you wanted, I'll take a picture tomorrow and try to attach it to a post.

I put the Wunderlich bars on ,expensive but pretty easy to do if you watch the video on youtube !! they look great in chrome and you can barely see them when you are on the bike !!

Can't see your problem with the engine bars. If you can put up with that ridiculous 49 litre abortion of an overdone topbox (more appropriately top crate) with it's gas struts, interior light blah blah, then your sense of style is, in my view, somewhat misplaced. If anything was ever overdone, that monstrosity has to be it. Only my opinion of course.
