When BMW eventually get round to showing them it's sure to be the HWM version as its the direct replacement for the C rated Z8.  Front one has no rating marks at all that I can see in my dimly lit shed.

Metzeler list 2 versions for the rear in Z8's, O & C spec.

The O rate was the one I fitted by mistake.  The tyre wall was very thin and flexible compared to the C and it was the walls that quickly started to fail.

Appreciate the quick replies gents!  I called the service manager this a.m. and requested to cancel the regular '01' for the rear and wait for the HWM version to become avail.  (I'll ride my Bonny in the meantime).

Thanks again!

Was the tyre fitted by a BMW dealer.

Go on then, who supplied & fitted it.

I got it on line and did order a C.  Didn't check it and got a bike tyre fitting shop in Derby to put it on.  Supplier took it back and paid to have it swapped.
Haven't bothered trying to save a few quid since. Just get my dealer to replace them. Lot less hassle.

I'm waiting for the HWM rear to arrive - could be another month.  While I'm waiting -not- patiently; any detailed updates on how those who have the 01's are finding their performance?

How do you distinguish the various grades of tyre? Are the tyre walls marked with the grade?
My 2014 RT was supplied with Z8's fitted when I bought it in March. The front was brand new with zero mileage whilst the rear was part worn but in very good condition, obviously with very little mileage.
I cannot tell the grade of the tyres but following a service last week the mechanics gave me me an advisory that both tyres were out of shape and approaching their minimum tread. I have done 2.5K miles on the bike and although I have given it some stick (including a trip around the Isle of Man) I am disappointed in the tyres.
I wonder if the wrong grade has been fitted, particularly to the front for it to go out of shape so quickly?

The correct Z8 are M rated front and C rated rear. I'm pretty sure they are marked with those letters on the side walls but I don't have them any more so cannot check for you. I suspect you have the softer side wall standard Z8 and thats why they have worn out so quickly.

Yes, the tyre side walls are marked with all the information, http://www.metzeler.com/site/uk/tech-an ... tyres.html

Look at the "Country of production", the "Version code" (M) is next to it.
