R1200RT LC Screen
R1200RT LC Screen
Hi Guys, this maybe a really stupid question (could really be!) but how do you clean the bottom part of the screen, the bit where it attaches to the mechanism. Having washed the bike a few times, that bit looks rubbish with water marks.
Do you have to take the screen off?

Re: R1200RT LC Screen
Start with the screen all the way up (ignition left on). Wipe down all you can get at including round the bottom edges. Then get a piece of folded kitchen paper slightly damped at the top, feed it down between the screen and the frame. It gets rid of those annoying spots. Wouldn't advise taking the screen off regularly as its possible to damage the threads in the frame.

Same as others ing. On screen up, I use a electric leaf blower
Then micro towel for final drying

Re: R1200RT LC Screen
With the screen up i pass a looped electrical wire from inside down through the gap, then insert a damp microfibre towel through the loop and fold it over - using the wire you can pull the towel though the gap - a good see sawing motion cleans up nicely

I was about to ask the exact same question, Casbar, I can never get my lower screen clean. Oddly, I seem to get dead bugs splattered on the *inside* of the windshield in various places too. I don't know if they are ricocheting off my body or what?

Yes, not that uncommon it seems. I also have one or two insect splat marks occasionally decorating the 'inside' surface of the screen. I reckon it's down to the aerodynamics of airflow over/under/around the screen and the consequent vortices set up when riding help distribute the bugs in the most unusual places!timminator wrote: I was about to ask the exact same question, Casbar, I can never get my lower screen clean. Are you not just going so slow that insects are racing past you??

The really OCD such as myself remove the 4 screws that hold the screen onto the raising/lowering mechanism. Lift off the screen and clean to your heart's content.

garr2,
Beware of what has been previously said re the likelihood of damaging the (nut) threads if you repeatedly remove and re-insert the screen retaining bolts/screws!!

Especially important if he is only removing 4 screws. Since 6 hold the windshield onto the mechanism...........

Re: R1200RT LC Screen
Removing 6 (not 4, my mistake) screws and later replacing them without doing any damage is not as difficult as some people think.
Just don't be ham fisted and you should be right.
