I have just got a 2007 R1200RT (here in the UK) and am seeking advice what the best cylinder protectors are. Some appear to be metal, some plastic. How easy are they to fit? Do you need to take any fairing off etc etc?
Thanks

Re: Cylinder protector advice needed
Just put on the OEM plastic ones. They re very strong , easy to fit and do the job. You don't need to take anything off to fit them .

I got these on Ebay for Euro70.

Better than the £96 that the dealer wanted for the same thing. I've not fitted them yet though. I 'think' you have to remove the fairing to properly torque up the bolts.

Re: Cylinder protector advice needed
I have just taken delivery of the OEM ones from Motorworks and was quite pleased to find that just by removing the bottom fairing screws I had access to the M6 torx bolts; I was less happy to find that I needed longer ones to fit the protectors which weren't supplied, so I've had to buy some 20mm long ones from ebay.

The proper set come with all the necessary fittings. Good old Motorwotks.
