2014 RT LC Service cost?.
Re: 2014 RT LC Service cost?.
Had my first service done last week at John Clark Aberdeen. £127 all in, oil and filter change plus rear bevel oil changed. Oh and they washed it too ! Think the 6000 will be around £250. Nice staff.

My 6000 mile service at Dick Lovett Motorrad, Bristol on my 2015 RT LC was £122. When I took the bike in and asked for the total expected cost, they quoted me £168, which included brake fluid change. So, I queried why they change the brake fluid so prematurely (no specific answer given by the way!) and told them not to bother, and they agreed not to do it, hence the price was £122.
Why on earth do they call up for the first brake fluid change so early?? An inferior fluid (not DOT 4 spec) is put in at the factory?? Surely not?? ???

The brake fluid should be changed initially after one year, then every two years.
When speaking to a local BMW dealer discussing servicing/warranty etc. he told me that a customer was having a "chew on" with BMW warranty over a failed ABS pump because he had not had the brake fluid change as per the service schedule, still ongoing.

I'm very surprised the dealer didn't point out the necessity to change it after 1 year unless of course you have done the 6K in just a few months. I believe it's done to ensure any impurities are removed after its production, nothing to do itch the fluid being some low grade Chinese stuff bought in bulk by the factory.

My RT is due an annual service this month (August), oil & filter plus final drive oil (every two years).
The dealer flagged up that after another 1,600 miles it'll be due valve clearance & engine synchronization checks.
We both agreed to leave it until nearer the mileage interval, which won't be long, heading to Wales soon.

To act as a flush of the system from new to rid it off any contamination from new components bedding in, then every two years after to avoid water absorption.RTman10 wrote: Why on earth do they call up for the first brake fluid change so early?? That then begs the question, 'Why not change it at the first 600 mile service as they do with the engine oil?' 6000 miles isa long time to sit with 'contaminants' in the hydraulic brake system...?? ??? Also, what other bike manufacturer adopts such a dubious policy re premature brake fluid change?? I understand the hygroscopic properties of brake fluid, hence the recommendation to change it every 2 years (cars and bikes alike), but this does sound more like a BMW ruse to take more money off the punter......!
