Not my experience with Z8s having used them on 1600GTL and RTs.  Have now changed to Roadtec 01s which  are the best of any tyre I've used.

How long do those RoadTec01 last, and what kind of riding do you do?

Z8 down to the chords with reasonable tread either side of the centre.

I consider my riding to be reasonably spirited but as I do at least 2 longish tours per year, this includes some long motorway riding.  Only had them on for 2500 miles but picked up a nail in the rear due to having builders in last month.  Front still mint after the 2500. Rear the same after only 1500.  They reckon they have 30% more use in them compared to the Z8. Some will tell you they are not recommended by BMW.  My response is not yet.

All this stuff about tyres must be really helping the OP with his "which RT?" decision!

Let's hope he's not reading the service saga.  Do you not use the named dealer and what about your book.

Accept it. It's the age of information glut

If "looks" are important go for the Twincam. "Form and Function" in perfect harmony. Best looking RT of all.

Thanks everyone for your help and insight.  I've gone ahead and bought the 2011.  Picked it up yesterday and had a 3 hour ride home in torrential rain.  I'm over the moon with how it performed in those conditions.  The feedback from the road was fantastic and it felt very sure-footed compared to the 1150RT.  So really looking forward to a few rides in slightly better conditions!!

Just slight confusion though on exactly what variant I've got.  In my original post I said that it was a bog standard RT.  The original dealer has written SE on the first page of the owners handbook.  The V5 document says MU !?!  The insurance document describes is as an LE.

In terms of equipment, it's got cruise control, ASC, ESA2, heated grips, heated seats, tyre pressure monitors and on board computer.  About the only things that it hasn't got are radio/bluetooth, alarm and satnav.  So can anyone tell me definitively what it is?

It sounds the same as my 2012, which I'm told was a MU, with dynamic pack.

MU just means Model Update. Reckon it's an LE but DayGlo David will confirm it for you in a bit.

Unless the dealer has got it wrong, it's an SE. (My 2012 model has R1200RT-SE in the handbook).
dsajones wrote:The V5 document says MU.
The MU refers to "Model Update", I believe this first appeared on V5's in 2010, when the R1200RT was "face lifted" from the "Hexhead" to the "Camhead".

Who provided the info. for the insurance document, insurers normally take the reg. no. & look at listings, this is not always correct.

My 2010 & 2012 RT's had all the above equipment, excluding ASC & TPM, these two items may have been part of the dynamic pack option.

In conclusion, my guess is that the bike is an SE with a dynamic pack.

Not sure that in 2011, there was an LE model available.

In 2009 there was a "Hexhead" LE (Limited Edition) in black, something manufacturers usually do towards the end of a model run,
when a new model is due out, in this case the 2010 "Camhead".

In 2013, the 90 Year Special "Camhead" was available before the "Liquid Cooled" RT came out in 2014.

Now with the "Liquid Cooled" RT, there are 3 versions available, Standard, SE & LE.

I had the 2009 black LE and it had the same specs but as you say it was a limited edition (end of line) model.
