I have spent hours reading posts on various BMW forums concerning the operation of the radio on my 2011 RT. I have a set of the Etymotic Earplug/Headset Earphones. I have found the 4 pin plug and acquired the repair cable which plugs into it. I have attached a 3.5mm female jack. In the mode section i have the line out turned on. I have the fade down in the 10 position and do get acceptable FM station sound, but absouletly no AM sound no matter what i try.
I am now at the point of total frustration.
Any thoughts?

Re: Connect Etymotic Earplug/Headset
Okay, with further research I will now answer my own question. Have found that the wiring diagram I used was in error. I have found another site finally which has the correct wiring.
So the four wire repair cable from BMW which plugs into the appropriate socket is thus,
Wire 1 is ground
Wire 2 is not used
Wire 3 right speaker
Wire 4 left speaker
On any 3.5mm headset or earbud plug the wiring is,
Tip of plug left speaker
Middle ring right speaker
Inner ring is the ground
So once I had the wiring done correctly my system works perfectly.
Just have the fade in position 10 which shuts of the bike speakers and you have pure headset or earbud sound.
