2007 RT-P Which Oil In UK?

Post by iRider »

Hi Guys,

I have a 2007 R1200RT-P that came go me with no owners manual. I'm working my way through things like new tyres, new brake pads, new plugs etc etc and these are easy as they all have identifying numbers.

I have picked up a new oil filter but I am at a loss to know what is the best oil to fit and how much it takes.

So given it will be used in uk temperatures rather than the extremes seen in other countries, what oil should I put in and how much?

Cheers. Mark.

Another oil thread, my goodness!

The problem is that no two engines are identical after 9 years of use, so what will work in one engine might not work well in another.

My engine - so this might not apply to anyone else - worked well with Silkolene 20W-50 fully synthetic. My engine drank thinner 10W-40 & 10W-50 oil when revved going up and down alpine passes.

You can now expect a multitude of different recommendations from other riders with different engines to mine.

This will not have helped!!!

Good luck,

John

In 2007, BMW recommended 20w-50 mineral oil, they later changed the spec. to 10w-50 fully synthetic, the quantity is 4 l.

The dealers probably now use 15w-50 in all pre-LC boxer twins.
