Headlight Adjustment (URGENT) Twin Cam RT

Post by Our Gee »

Morning all,

sorry if this has been asked before. I have left it a bit late before setting off for France tomorrow but here goes. I have forgotten which way to turn the white hex nut to lower the headlight unit. I know that adjustment can be made with the large black knob on the dash but I want to make sure I don't cause agravation with French drivers so a few turns of the white under dash nut will be useful.
Thanks.

I don't know which way to turn the nut, but if it's any help, I have a spare set of the BMW headlight conversion stickers.

Shine the dip onto a wall and flick the switch up and down. Wouldn't bother with a deflector or any kind unless you intend to ride at night.

Found this thread on BMWLT, http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/rt-series/6 ... tment.html,
looks like it's for an earlier model with the white flip lever, but still has an adjuster too.

"Screwing it in (clockwise) lifts the light, screwing out lowers it."

Even the BMW pdf. document doesn't say which way to turn the adjuster for up or down.

Will you be riding through any tunnels.

The Twincam does not have the flickable lever like the earlier models. As the white plastic hex head adjuster is famous for snapping off I didn't want to screw it unnecessarily hance my original query.
At this time of year I will definately be riding in the dark.

Thanks for the info David, I will give it a few turns "out" as it will probably be the same as the previous method with the flip lever.

From memory I recall a couple of tunnels, Rouen and Aubenas on the way down and Lyon on the way back north.

Thanks for the offer of the conversion stickers but I'll stick to the beam lowering method.

Looks like my last minute trip is on hold for a few days. My host in Provence has just gone down poorly. Nothing booked as far as Chunnel / Ferries / Hotels so no problem, mayby next week or week after.

Took my 2010 RT down to the south in May and just lowered the beam, worked fine for me👍

Thought I'd add this photo to this thread for future reference.

I can confirm that, for vertical adjustment, "Screwing it in (clockwise) lifts the light, screwing out lowers it."
