I tried a 2016 Rt today at the dealer and it felt OK. Then I tried a used 2010 and it was like night and day. It seemed so much lighter and easier to straddle (I'm 5'6"). The salesman just said they're had been some changes, but he didn't know what or when.
Does anyone have any idea at what modelle year the RT got heavier and perhaps wider?
The liquid-cooled RT was introduced in the first quarter of 2014 and there have been no significant shape or weight changes between then and the 2016 model that you tried at the dealer.
The 2010 is also a great bike which will serve you well.
Both great bikes ,either will serve you well, unfortunately the same can`t be said about your potential "salesman", find one who knows what he`s talking about.
Weight wise there is about a 25Kg increase in the LC mainly due to it being water cooled. As the weight is lower and things like the suspension have improved it handles better. Don't think there is any difference in their widths except the LC is narrower round your lower leg area as there are no injector bits in the way. Height wise would depend on what seat the bikes had on but the LC low seat is 10mm lower than the TC. Find yourself a salesman who knows what he's talking about and start again.

Also the difference between a full and empty tank is noticeable, if the 2010 was empty and the 2016 full you have nearly 50 kilos (110 lbs) difference in weight that would feel significant.
I reckon as the salesman was so knowledgable he might have given you 1600 to try instead of a 2016. That would explain it. For the vast majority of us who have moved on to the LC. We find them far more agile and powerful.

You are obviously in denial mode and you know full well they were stop gap models with a borrowed engine. All down to the extended development time of the LC .

I'm in the process of trading a 2013 TC for a 2017MY LC. Having ridden both, I find the LC slightly easier to flat foot and, even when pushing around at the garage, it actually feels lighter than the TC. Strange perhaps, but true .....
However, if the OP decides on a TC he'll be getting an excellent model - truly a finely tuned end of evolution.

As it was with the TC that weighed 229kg without panniers etc.
There was some slight of hand by BMW on the K1600. GT 314kg (no panniers). GTL 349 (with including top box). Add then onto the GT. and guess what.
I reckon with the RT it's all down to the engine because the plastic should weigh less.

How big is your gas tank?
Gasoline is 6.183 pounds per gallon.
