Is Mahle the same as OEM parts
Is Mahle the same as OEM parts
All,
Doing a search for service parts for 2014 RT wet head, and come across the Mahle brand stating it's OEM in some of its advertising material.
Is that correct?
I will be doing my own servicing but want to use OEM parts to maintain the warranty. I have OEM part numbers.
Thanks all.

In that case as you have spent a small fortune buying the bike I would suggest it's not worth trying to save next to nothing fitting parts that (might) be the same as the original.

Re: Is Mahle the same as OEM parts
The Oil Filter I just took off is a BMW oil Filter but also has got Mahle stamped on it.
this was an oil change + filter done by the dealer.

Excellent, thanks for the info., therefore, it looks like the dealer has used a (BMW) re-badged Mahle filter.
What make you replacing it with, (if not BMW badged), are there any differences in costs.

Re: Is Mahle the same as OEM parts
I had a spare BMW filter from my previous Hexhead and it's the same number.
And it says BMW only, but the number is the same.
I think Mahle uses the exact same number, but not sure.
Munich Motorcycles over here in Australia does sell the Mahle filter for R1200RT-LC as service parts.
Just read the number of your current oil filter and do some price search. No point of giving you our price over here as you should be able to get it much cheaper on your side of the Pond.

Re: Is Mahle the same as OEM parts
From RealOEM, the oil filter for a K26 (Hexhead) is not the same part no. as for a K52 (LC).Alfred wrote:I had a spare BMW filter from my previous Hexhead and it's the same number.

From the Mahle catalogue, the K26 is an OC306 & the K52 is an OC619.

David
The two filters show the same part number "except" for the very last part which is a "-***"
But as the Hexhead filter came in it's original BMW box, the box doesn't even show the last "-***" part.
So as such, the numbers as per BMW original box packaging is the same. That's what your dealer would be looking at when grabbing it of the shelf.
I have had the Hexhead filter spare from my previous bike and it fits in every way, also looks the same from what I can see internally.
I will keep the original filter and on the next change will cut them open to see if there is any difference, just for curiosity.

Re: Is Mahle the same as OEM parts
If it helps all BMW part numbers have the same sequence of numbers. These are 2 followed by another 2 then a single number and then always two sets of 3. It's the last two sets of three which finally identify each part. The preceding numbers put them into categories. No two identical items will have different numbers. Printed numbers on cartons should always be checked to ensure they are the same as the contents.

Re: Is Mahle the same as OEM parts
From the Mahle catalogue, it confirms by cross-referencing the BMW part nos. that the K26 (Hexhead) is an OC306 & the K52 (LC) is an OC619.
The only physical difference I can find is the height, the OC619 is 62mm & the OC306 is 53.5mm, a difference of 8.5mm.
Probably doesn't seem a lot unless they are side by side.
Can't find any dimensions for the BMW ones.
K&N also list two different filters for the Hexhead & LC.

Re: Is Mahle the same as OEM parts
You would have to be demented to fit any oil filter that isn't the one specified by the manufacturer, even if you think another type is identical. The two filters shown above are the only ones to,use.

Re: Is Mahle the same as OEM parts
From a BMW invoice, I can confirm that the 11.42.7.673.541 oil filter is used on the TC, same as the Hexhead.
Can anyone confirm the number for the LC.
