Where did you get to in 2016
As the title says, "Where did you get to in 2016".
No overseas trips for me this year.
Did plenty in the UK, had a weekend at Haltwhistle (Centre of GB), did the North Coast 500, a weekend in Wales at Llandudno & Melrose on the Scottish Boarders.
Lots of days out on the XJ650.
Clocked up approx. 5,000 miles on the RT & 4,000 miles on the XJ650.

50 of us went to Luxembourg for 5 days in May. About 1300 miles covered. There are some nice roads in the Eiffel and the Ardennes.
In July 25 of us did a 7 day trip to Orkney spending 4 nights on Orkney. Rains a lot up,there. About a 1400 mile round trip. And nothing posh about the ferry. No damage to any of the bikes though.
Early September we went to Northumberland staying in Alnwick. Raines there as well.

Did a two week tour of South Island NZ in Feb. Fantastic country and roads ( luckily no earthquakes )!
Went to the Bikers Classic at Spa in July, stopping at the Menin gate, and La Coupole V2 Rocket factory museum near Calais on the way home.

Last May a trip to the South of France including the Dordogne, Millau Bridge ( a must) Ardeche and Tarn gorges. Weather was superb.
Re: Where did you get to in 2016
I had a trip with my brother (on a K1600GT at the time) to Sicily. A long way from Scotland, but an interesting trip. One outstanding memory is the very poor condition of roads in Italy. This has been recognised by the addition of speed limit signs - down from 100kph to 50 or from 130kph to 80. We got some terrific MPGs on the way down, but progress was slow. We realised that all the locals seemed to ignore the new signs and continued to drive up to and over the previous limits, just trying to avoid the worst of the potholes, so on the way back up through Italy we tried to rida according to road conditions rather than speed limits. Italy is still a beautiful country.
Later in the year I met up with a friend (on a Honda Crosstourer) with whom I used to work and we travelled through Germany to the Danish island of Bornholm - a fabulous, unspoiled island, really beautiful. From there to Sweden, then a third ferry to Lithuania. Beautiful beaches, sensible prices, nice people (ALL of whom seem to speak English !). We travelled from Klaipeda to Vilnius then headed for home via Warsaw, Prague & Dusseldorf before I caught my ferry home from Ijmuiden. Various diversions, sightseeing trips and a lap of the Nurburgring took my mileage for that trip close to 4000 miles. A lot of riding, but I would not have missed it for the world - I would do it again and there isn't a better bike on which to do that kind of trip than the R1200RT.
