Faring Panel Removal
Faring Panel Removal
Over the next weeks I am going to take the faring panels off for some routine winter preventative maintenance. Never done this before on R1200RT TC 2010. I know when I took farings off my K series there were a few good ideas given to me by owners. I have a Haynes WS Manual. Just wondering if there are any hidden pitfalls.

Re: Faring Panel Removal
"It's a doddle", especially with decent quality panels & all screwed fixings.
Re: Faring Panel Removal
Because the shoulder on the screws bmw uses can either be long or short depending on location on panel, I started taping the removed screw next to the hole it goes in
Don't forgot the little plastic washers that often found and easily lost. Your dealer should be able to supply you with a few dozen
Finally a dab of either white grease or silicone grease on tip of screw makes reinstalling easier

Read first post, it's a 2010 Twincam. I too have never come across plastic washers.Sullivj wrote:

Re: Faring Panel Removal
If you want to know if your bike should have the washers/spacers look it up on Real OEM. They will show with the bolts.

All the faring panel screws on a TC are the same length.T6pilot wrote:Because the shoulder on the screws bmw uses can either be long or short depending on location on panel, I started taping the removed screw next to the hole it goes in.

Which was a good move by BMW. They forgot about that when they built the LC.
Re: Faring Panel Removal
Please about this - my K 1200RS panel screws were a nightmare. 6 different sizes.
Re: Faring Panel Removal
My mistake my bike is a 15
My C650gt shares the varied screw shoulders as did my 1600gt
Plastic washers seem to be on LC bikes and not earlier
