Motorail to Austria & Italy
Re: Motorail to Austria & Italy
It probably doesn't apply now but back in 2002 on a tour to Spain one of our group railed his 1200LT. He spent most of the week we were there trying to get rid of the diesel film on it. He must have been directly behind the locomotive as well.

Where in Spain did the bike get put on the train & what was the destination.RTman10 wrote:In 2002 on a tour to Spain one of our group railed his 1200LT.
Did the rider travel on the same train as the bike or on a separate passenger only train.
"Auto-Train is different from all the other motorail services in that cars & passengers travel separately."

Can't remember from or to but he was on the same train. After all this time he probably wouldn't remember either.

"There are no direct motorail trains to Spain."
The nearest you can get to Spain now is either Biarritz or Narbonne from Paris.
Then ride through or over the Pyrenees.

4 of us did it in June last year. Verona to Dusseldorf. The cabin is snug but plenty of room for the 4 of us, storage above the corridor with plenty of room for all your stuff. We had a 6 berth cabin. Train staff are friendly and arrive promptly when called. We sat taking in the view with a few reasonably priced beers and snacks. The terminal is within walking distance of Verona City which is beautiful, we parked the bikes in the queue and disappeared for 3 hours, came back and loaded the bikes. It `s a bit snug on the bottom deck, keep your head down...! Have a look at my short clip here; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yED1DngFQC4
Do it, it's a fantastic experience and the views are breathtaking.

Hi, we are considering the Dusseldorf-Verona trip next year. The prices aren`t up on the website yet, I wondered if you could give me an idea of the costs. We`d need a return ticket for the bike and return 2 person occupancy in a compartment. Any advice would be appreciated.
