Arm rests for pillion
Arm rests for pillion
Good morning, new member here.
I used the search function without success to attempt to determine any options that exist for mounting arm rests for the pillion.
Someone has had to have addressed this issue previously.
Please share your thoughts/products/experiences!
Thanks,
Dana

Re: Arm rests for pillion
They are readily available on the K1600GTL only. They do not fit any other bike as the top box on the GTL is further back and that is necessary to make them fit. Don't know of any aftermarket ones. The GTL ones look like they are part of the Top box but in fact are attached to a very strong steel frame. I had them on an Exclusive. Verdict of my pillion was. Waste of space.

Found this photo from a thread in BMWLT, http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/rt-series/1 ... eview.html
Good luck, you may find something.

E gads. Wonder if they made another one. Is that a date in the bottom right hand corner. If so it's a photo from a parallel universe .

Looking more closely at the photo I wonder what the cost of the surgery was to adapt your legs to reach those front pegs.

Competition time.
What's the object attached to the left handlebar.
Is it A. Electric knife with the blade removed
B. Miniature TV
C. Hairdryer

All I need to ask is why?
Vini, Vidi, Velcro....... I came, I saw, I stuck around.
Re: Arm rests for pillion
hi Dana and welcome to the forum with your first post.
I don't carry a pillion so have never had this request. Are there any reasons for your passenger wanting arm rests (such as a medical need or they feel safer).
The photo would suggest someone has done this already, and I recall seeing modifications to the top box that give some extra comfort for passenger. This post from another forum suggests what can be done.

Re: Arm rests for pillion
The post from BMWLT suggests two options, either fit the K1600GTL top box (inc. backrest) to an RT, or fit the backrest to an existing RT top box (same as K1600).ItsOnlyMe wrote:I recall seeing modifications to the top box that give some extra comfort for passenger. If the top box(s) fit both the RT & the K1600, does this mean that the luggage rack/grid is the same on both models?

Re: Arm rests for pillion
The rack is the same but is set 30mm further back. The backrest on the GTL Is much larger and is also attached with different lid hinges. If fitted on an RT it would overhang the rear of the pillion seat. Should still be room for a small child though.
Re: Arm rests for pillion
And the backrest overhangs the pillion pushing the pillion passenger forward, honest.
