Unknown 2 inch piece of Rubber??
Unknown 2 inch piece of Rubber??
Just installed Clearwater Ericas on my 2016 RT and while I had the bike on the lift a 2" x 3/8" piece of rubber fell out from under the front fairing. I have no idea where this goes. Any help would be much appreciated.

My first guess is that it has nothing to do with your bike, and is probably a bit of road debris that has been stuck up there for a while. Looks like the edges are slightly serrated? I can't tell how thick it is from that photo, can you put up another pic that show the profile on edge?

Here are two other photos from the other angles, but it's a pretty uniform rectangle and may be hard to see a difference. One end is slightly torn but the piece itself is very clean, leading me to believe it's not road debris. I initially thought it was left over from dealer prep, but thought I'd check here on the forum. My bike only has 1600 miles on it and it was the first time I had the fairing off, and the piece dropped while I was installing the light.

To be clear the dimensions of the piece are 2" Length x 3/8" width x 3/8 height. Thanks

Hi
Not seen anything like that drop from mine. I have had the fairing off a couple of times but can not think where that may have come from

See nothing under my pannier that even comes close. I still go with road debris, or possibly a bit of trimmings left over from the manufacturing process.

Re: Unknown 2 inch piece of Rubber??
Is it a piece of foam that is used as protection during transit, when new, stuck to a part of bodywork, to be removed by the supplying dealer (as used on brand new cars, stuck on door edges) possibly dropped by a technician when doing the pdi inspection
Re: Unknown 2 inch piece of Rubber??
Thanks for all responses and suggestions. I'm going to assume its a protective leftover that should've been removed by the dealer. Lot's of snow where I am, as soon as it clears I will take the bike out for a test spin and see how it goes.

Where are you located @amsrk144?, I'm in Portland. I went on a ride today, 50+ degrees and dry, beautiful day for a ride. Then I'm crossing a bridge over the Willamette river when everyone starts braking. Out of nowhere there's like a 100 foot stretch of road covered in snow and slush. Looks like the top of a semi trailer was covered in a foot of snow, and it all came off at once. It was fun riding through that.

I'm in Westchester county, just north of New York City. We got 13 inches yesterday and expect another 6-8 tomorrow. I don't mind riding in single digit weather, the heated gear keeps me just fine. But I draw the line in wet snow.

I have seen many a bike coming out of their crates and the only protection they get is a bit of gaffer tape here and there and some felt strips. Never bits of rubber. My thoughts, its road crap.

It looks like the sort of foam rubber that would be used between two surfaces which have the potential to rub against one another, or to seal a gap against dirt or water ingress, not come across it on the RT though.
