Foot brake lever issue

Post by Frank123 »

Hi when I put my foot on the brake lever of my (recently purchased/rarely ridden) 2009 R1200RT I find I step on the 'triangle' above the lever/pedal (see photo) then as I apply more pressure my foot slips down onto the lever. Bit off putting until I realised what was going on. I note new RTs do not have this type of brake lever. Any easy cheap solution to this issue?

Hi, I put a 'Brake pedal enlarger' on mine, Not cheap for what it is but made it feel better after coming from bikes with bigger brake pedals.

I was going to make the same suggestion.  Of course, you could always trade it in for an LC model...

The Ebay one was only £10.50. Can it really be 3 times as good?

I wouldn't have thought it was any better at all, I'd have got the £10.50 one had I know about it :(

Here's one I made earlier.

Ordered an extension for brake and gear levers from Sportouring, one on back order so in the meantime decided to 'knock up' a temporary stand in.
An off cut of rigid water pipe, some offcut rubber sheet (could have used gorilla tape) and a rubber grommet from Halfords. They work a treat, needn't have bothered with the real thing and cost about 20p for the pair. What's not too like.
Not particularly stylish and not TUV rated but who cares.

Hi K9doc very impressed with your innovation. I'm not sure I would have the confidence to make and fit something like that on my brake lever. Stay safe out there.

Good work K9Doc.  All it needs now is a little BMW badge on the end.  (That'll start 'em off - you'll see)

As mentioned in a previous post, looking for a cheap Chinese copy of the rounded but can't seem to find one.

The Wunderlich offering is just a bit of Aluminium tube with a bit of fancy machining. Still needs gluing on to stop it falling off. Being the 'Anniversary Edition' I think the 'blackness is more in keeping than the boring old silvery colour of the proper job. In any event it stops my foot missing the pedal altogether, which has to be an improvement.👍

STG£29 later (free postage) Wunderlich brake pedal Enlarger received and fitted, job done! See photo. While there is a locking screw fitted a touch of super glue is a good idea so that it doesn't fall off (to be sure, to be sure). Have yet to try it out on the road.
