2000 r1100rs
2000 r1100rs
I'm about to purchase my first BMW - a 2000 r1100rs. It is in great condition with 60,000 miles. The owner bought it two years ago after it had had a 60,000 mile service. He was going to ride with his wife but she was injured so he rarely took the bike out (he said about 2 tanks worth in the last year or so). I'm wondering what type of maintenance I would need to do, if any, once I get the bike. I'm thinking about things like brake fluid and such. Thanks for the help.
Re: 2000 r1100rs
Like all,of them they should be serviced after 12 months or 6000 miles. Confirm with the seller that the 60k service was a full, one that should have included plugs filters and all, oils. If so I would suggest just engine, gearbox and final drive fluid changes.

As the bike has done minimal mileage since the last 60,000 miles service, https://www.ascycles.com/pdf/ServiceSch ... RS_12K.pdf,
perhaps an annual inspection service would be in order, https://www.ascycles.com/pdf/ServiceSch ... Annual.pdf.
As per RTman10, change engine oil & filter, gearbox oil & final drive oil.
Plus, change brake fluid, front & rear.

Re: 2000 r1100rs
Do a full service including brake fluid and check brake pads. You then know where you are and can thoroughly check the bike over. Peace of mind. Post a pic.

Thanks for the advice. Really looking forward to learning more about the bike. Changing fluids seems like a good first step. I did get the Clymer manual and have the "Oilhead Maintenance Manual" pdf. Any other resource recommendations that would be worthwhile to check out - I'd love to here about them.
David - thanks for the inspection checklists.

Never mind the bike, what's that interesting little car tucked away in the corner?
Re: 2000 r1100rs
I figured that would catch someone's eye. That's the new toy of the guy selling me the bike. Just got it fully restored...
Re: 2000 r1100rs
You might want to check when the fuel filter was last replaced as they become problematic with age. It's a bugger to get to though.
So when is this “old enough to know better” supposed to kick in?
