Well my beloved geezercycle - oops, I mean cruiser - is up for sale so I have been spending ALL my time doing internet searches on "r1200rt for sale". I have become fairly good at spotting aftermarket equipment and with some research I can ballpark the cost of most of these items.
One curious thing I have noticed is that used bikes at dealerships seem to have a lot less aftermarket equipment on them than FSBO bikes. Has anyone else noticed this trend?
I am wondering if dealerships have a policy of removing aftermarket items before offering used bikes for sale. Or perhaps people who dress up their bikes are just less likely to trade them. Does anyone here have an opinion on this?
Do dealers remove accessories?
Re: Do dealers remove accessories?
When I traded my 1600GT
I removed as many of the add ons (farkles) as I could
Dealer will not give you any value for them
Some I got to use on my RT
Others I sold on the webb

I agree, I think most folks save the original parts when they add-on something aftermarket. No sense in giving it away to the dealer, so slap back on the factory bits when they trade it in.T6pilot wrote: When I traded my 1600GT

Agreed. Dealers always prefer bikes in stock condition and in many cases will reduce the value of one with lots of extras bolted on.
Re: Do dealers remove accessories?
I have only ever traded one bike, my 2008 R1200RT for my current ride a 2015 R1200RT. The dealer said he would prefer I removed all the after market bits even though we was going to send it auction.
I was happy to agree and move some over to the new 1200 but still have the rest waiting to go to eBay when I can be bothered to get to it!!

TJRL - Having owned a hex head and a Wet head, how do they compare? Should I pony up the extra money for the newer model? Thanks.
