Map update for Older Garmin devices
Map update for Older Garmin devices
Good morning,
There has been a map update for the older devices (Garmin 660 & older or BMW Navigator IV)
You can get it via Garmin Express, and if you want it on the computer as well - please don't forget to adjust the install options!
Best regards
Sleuth

Thanks for the "heads-up" Sleuth, GPS device (660) & computer being updated as I type.
Will report back later!
Will report back later!
Re: Map update for Older Garmin devices
Can anyone explain why Garmin updates take so long to install?
The latest update (for my 660) shows an installation time of 2 hrs 44 mins.

Is there a difference between Europe (UK) & US map versions.LAF wrote:I just did my car 660 and Bike Nav V today and it is 2018.20 I got.

I bet you are correct on that. It explains it pretty well I think.David. wrote: Is there a difference between Europe (UK) & US map versions.
Re: Map update for Older Garmin devices
Nav V I think uses the newer NTU map set which I understand is currently on version 2018.20LAF wrote: I just did my car 660 and Bike Nav V today and it is 2018.20 I got.
The 660 / Nav IV or earlier uses the NT map set which is 2018.10
The older map sets are not as frequently updated, possibly a means to persuade people to upgrade.

Don't think they build new roads that quickly, that it really matters.Sleuth wrote:The older map sets are not as frequently updated, possibly a means to persuade people to upgrade.

Re: Map update for Older Garmin devices
They certainly don't update the maps quickly enough to keep up with the changes in speed limits. Invariably downwards and if in doubt, knock 10 mph off the limit indicated by the GPS.David. wrote: Yep, I'm on the NT maps with my 660.

They've already done it for you in the Peak District, everywhere is 50 MPH when it should be the NSL of 60 MPH.k9doc wrote:They certainly don't update the maps quickly enough to keep up with the changes in speed limits. Aye but that's only on the 'grockle' roads. Not a problem when you know where to go. Mind you, anymore than 50 through cow$h1t does leave things a bit messy.David. wrote: They've already done it for you in the Peak District, everywhere is 50 MPH when it should be the NSL of 60 MPH.

While in general this is true, however there are exceptions to the rule!David. wrote: Don't think they build new roads that quickly, that it really matters.
Where I live they have knocked down a bridge - to make way for a canal expansion & to reduce ways a car can get into the city! It was blocked for traffic during November last year.
The new map still has the bridge as an option. I know Belgium is pretty lax on where motorcycles can & can't go - but I think that stretches the limits!
