Anyone know What this LED is

Post by axamax »

Had my 2012 Camhead R1200RT for about a year and just spotted this LED today. Only comes on when engine is running. I have just fitted HID but the ballsts are mounted higher behind the speaker grilles.[attachimg=1]

Not sure. Don't have it on my 2012.

What's the metal bracket below the speaker grill? Is that to hold your ballast?

Have a look at this

https://www.sparkbright.co.uk/sparkright-eclipse-battery-voltage-monitor.php

Used to have a CBF1000 which apparently is prone to stator failure. The cognoscenti over on that forum suggested fitting one of these to monitor battery voltage and thus a measure of stator output. If wired through a switched +ve, it would only light green with the engine running and orange/red with ignition on but not running.
Don't see why it would be hidden though.

Metal bracket hold sthe LED spotlights. Denali Auxiliary Light Mounting Kit for BMW R1200RT '05-'13, bought from Twisted throttle. Don't think ballasts have an LED on them and as I say they are mounted higher up.

Only lights when engine running. Nothing at any other time. I'll ask the HID supplier tomorrow if there any LED's on anything in the kit.

It could be one of these perhaps?  This shows green all the time that the battery is OK.

Apparently it is on one of the components in the ballast lead of the HID, to prove the ballst is getting power.
