Notch in brake/clutch lever
Curiosity has gotten the best of me. Can anyone tell me the purpose of these notches?

Re: Notch in brake/clutch lever
Shear points,
If you drop bike or hit something, allows the end of lever to break rather than damaging complete unit. Both are easily replaceable, though Bmw parts are $$$

The notches are for the reminder cables used with disk locks
I was born with nothing and unfortunately I still have most of it left.

Re: Notch in brake/clutch lever
If crash bung panniers are fitted, are the brake and/or the clutch lever(s) likely to break.
Re: Notch in brake/clutch lever
In over 10 years of selling BMW parts I can never remember anybody needing either lever after a fall. The pots save them as much as anything.
Re: Notch in brake/clutch lever
Broke my 1600 clutch lever at the shear point during a zero speed tip over, dealer explained it was designed that way to protect the rest of the upper system, they had a supply of clutch and brake levers at about $40 each

Also means that you have a fair chance of being able to ride home with what's left.
